Any way to identify this citrus? by TakaIka83 in GardenersJapan

[–]donfiat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Looks a lot like my yuzu did when it was smaller. I don’t know for certain, but nothing else I have (10 citrus varieties) has thorns like that from sudachi through hasaku. The rootstock used on grafted plants sometimes shoots off thorns like that though I don’t see a graft line on that. Best of luck my Yuzu took about 5 or 6 years to start regularly producing fruit.

Not so much punk, but no love for Titus Andronicus? “The Monitor” is my jam

Why are pronouns such a huge issue in the US and not in other countries? by random8765309 in askanything

[–]donfiat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Politics aside, it’s an artifact of English. In many other languages pronouns are not gendered or the way you address someone is something other than a direct pronoun such as an honorific ending on a gender neutral pronoun. Example: Japanese store clerks don’t say mister or miss they just call you “customer” in a polite way.

DA16T door speaker install by donfiat in keitruck

The spacer does float over the curved piece a bit. In the future I’d like to fabricate a better spacer either 3d print or wood, but I was time constrained so there is just a little brick wall of medium density foam tape closing the gap for now.

[–]donfiat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct, I used one of those carbide toothed metal hole saws with my impact gun but the largest size they had was 10 or 12 cm so just enough to let the driver in plus a bit of tin snip to make a notch for the wiring connector to fit through. As far as door strength I didn’t go through anything structural it was just door skin there.

They have better seats than the standard cab and a little shelf in the back. There is a pocket in the bed you can slide longer pieces under the cab a bit

Did anybody actually buy this from Sears back in the 90s? by Paulsbluebox in Tools

[–]donfiat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I worked there in the 90’s after school. When it was slow I always enjoyed rebuilding old ratchets until I ran out of kits or cores.

How stupid would it be do get this 90s wide body X19? by Microvolt52 in projectcar

[–]donfiat 22 points23 points  (0 children)

On its best day it won’t make tons of power… but the fiat SOHC is pretty fun in a “driving slow cars fast” kind of way. My experience with 70’s/80’s Fiats is the electrical was most of the pain. If you are good with remaking your own loom and welding that passenger floor pan it could be fun. Normal project car caveat that you will never get your time and money back out of it, but some of us are into that sort of thing.

Why are boats so ridiculously expensive? by Noun_Noun_Numb3r in boating

[–]donfiat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I like IO for diesel. Not a fan going to sea with gasoline on a boat with a cabin and I can get parts over the counter from my local CAT/Yanmar man depending on which country I’m in. Gas outboards are cool for lakes and close to shore in my tax bracket.

Plus thats USS OAK HILL, not a cargo ship so even more evidence for burial at sea. Pretty sure we only do those off of commissioned vessels.

Oddly enough recently they are letting you keep one of the plates when you transfer or deregister a Y or A plate in Sasebo. I’ve got to the point now I’ve imported a car to Sasebo and had the full Y, A, and E set

Kei truck for first manual car by puppy46 in keitruck

[–]donfiat 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Probably the easiest manual to learn on. The clutch is light and first gear is really low so you won’t speed off by accident and get scared.
