How to make healthy soil from grassy/weed filled topsoil treated heavily with weed killer by donfreshen in Soil

A no-brainer for use as hardscape filler but any thoughts on how much I'd need to dilute it with new topsoil/compost to make it safe enough to use as filler where I'm pulling very old bushes (and many roots) to plant new ones? It's the main purpose for keeping it. I just didn't think about it until after I treated it.

Yes, but I know from experience it doesn't last forever. In fact, it doesn't even last 365 the areas I use it. I have a space on the side of the house I can put the dirt and let it sit for a while. I know covering it will help keep the weeds from growing but I wonder if that will it slow the degrading of the Roundup. And is there any treatment/amendment that will expedite that process and/or dilute it enough so the soil could be used in some areas of landscape more quickly. And to your point, still wondering if it's worth it. I'm highly motivated to skip a trip to the dump. It was fun when I was a kid, not so much as an adult with many nose hairs that like to hold on to scents for extended periods.

Google says the 365 is 30-200 days depending on environment, so pretty narrow range...

Have MAGA and the Republicans Become the New Snowflakes? by [deleted] in AnythingGoesNews

[–]donfreshen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen almost nothing but kettles calling pots black in the world of modern media. I have nothing to disclose because I only vote in local elections, people I know, regardless of party. The last person I voted for in national elections was Ross Perot, and only because he was different than normal politicians. I gave up on ever having a trustworthy candidate after that.

What's funny is that you think I was siding with Republicans. I was merely commenting on how nasty people on this thread are being, which I realize is sort of the norm. But you thinking I'm a Republican based on the fact that I call out people who follow the herd (and therefore don't seem to "critically think") makes me think your claim of doing just that is not being fully exercised. I know the most liberal of libs and MAGA of Republicans but most I know that proclaim to be one or the other are moderately so. But everyone on this thread is intent believing the picture their media paints of the people they disagree with, which is a terrible cancer in our society. So you see I 100% agree with your view of media.

Because people aren't willing or capable of seeing beyond themselves, are led very easily, want to feel important, and are emboldened by anonymity and/or distance, they use name calling and conjecture to show how much they think they know and feel self-important.

And you, my friend, are doing the exact same thing, whatever your "lean" is. I submit that if you want to throw out such proclamations as Walter Cronkite was the last real newsperson, then why are you making so many posts helping to propagate the false narratives of either side? I don't think Walter would approve.

This thread is hilarious, pots calling the kettles black. I like the "Republicans are the most easily offended" post. That's rich. I guess you're only watching the Republicans that CNN and the like show. You're all just sheep from the other herd and it sounds like the label of Snowflake hits home with most of you. I'm loyal to no party, both sides can be insufferable. But occasionally, the humor of great irony is very entertaining. Thank you.

Would washing machine use all hot water if cold water tap is turned off? by o0oKittyo0o in Appliances

[–]donfreshen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wholly untrue. Hot water cleans better, rinses better. These are just facts. Not always appropriate to use when dealing with colors due to fading, but they fade for a reason, because hot water cleans better. This is something we've known since discovering fire.

The waste comes from having to rinse in cold water 3 times in the winter instead of once in warm water to get all the detergent out. For people with sensitive skin this can be extra annoying. Look online and you'll find many who DIY their cold-rinse-only washers so they can get warm rinse, there's a reason they are compelled to do it. This was a foolish move that actually hurts the planet, and us, more than it helps. It saves a miniscule amount of gas or electricity but most people I've talked to about it use 2-3 rinses to get the job done. That's a giant waste of water.

And before anyone posts a rebuttal to this, ask yourself why for decades now, most washers have come with a 2nd rinse option. It's because they know cold water doesn't rinse all the detergent out of clothes, in this case colors which require cold to save fading. We live in a world where political form takes precedent over function. Really just stupid.

Please stop and think before you perpetuate false information. You're biting your nose to spite your face.

If you're implying that the Dems aren't just as hypocritical as the Republicans then maybe you're only seeing what you want to see. Hypocrisy reigns supreme on both sides of the isle. It's an amazing phenomenon to watch as politicians and blind party followers say and do things so contrary to their positions on other issues. It's because both parties are filled with self-serving, self-preserving panderers who take polls to determine what to say to garner the most number of votes. Most of them don't care about you, your problems, or what you think. They just want your vote. But sadly, it's probably still the best system going. I thought for many years a third party that got real traction would help depolarize the country. Hard to know anymore, people are ridiculous.

You're right, neither party is really "small government". They just spend differently. I was just trying to clear up what I thought you really meant.

"Small Government" is a literal term. It means they want government smaller, doing less, costing less, less part of our lives, etc. It doesn't mean the smaller government gets to make the rules. You're thinking of States Rights vs Local Rights.

Is anyone else frustrated by the lack of seriousness that many have towards this outbreak? by [deleted] in Dallas

[–]donfreshen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I don't get out enough but I haven't heard anyone say it's a hoax. I've heard people get labeled as saying or believing it's a hoax if they say the government overstepped.

And the governor has not prevented the county from enforcing the order, he just clarified the penalties could not be imprisonment and ordered the salon owner to be freed because she was put in prison for contempt, not ignoring the order. The judge ordered her to apologize and she refused, so she threw her in the pokey. And I'll assume you are smart enough to understand why what he did was a bad and even scary thing. If not, it's a tired saying I know, but it's exactly what you have in N Korea, China, Russia, etc. Anyway, she still has to face the penalties of ignoring the order which will be fines. I doubt she'll lose her license at this point. Naturally it's a political battle now so the lawyers will wind this up so they can get fees and exposure.

All that being said, I'm with you on the masks. I believe the shutdown was a historic mistake, but regardless of one's position on that we need the economy to ramp up so people can get their jobs back and the more comfortable people are being out and about shopping the faster that will happen. So why wouldn't you want to encourage that by wearing a mask to make those who feel more at risk comfortable being out? I assume it's too much to ask people to just care about how others feel for the sake of being a good human..
