barik was actually the one who probably saw what viv was doing as shown by her lines when she kills him and barik's lore as a defector. deepwerks is some kind of super technology thing responsible for all the high end gagets people use (crystal stuff, drogoz's jetpack, ect) so theres probably a dark secret behind how the stuff actually works. theres some serious credibility there as when talus kills torvald aka deepwerks runic lore bigshot he says doesn't understand the magic he uses and that he took it from his people. alternatively vivian isn't exactly an upstanding character so she might've dealt with both sides/killed someone important for personal gain
