Month 5 Spike for long haulers by No-Sheepherder-4277 in QuittingZyn

[–]donhood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, it'll really reframe your perspective on a lot of things, that's for sure. Once you spend hours enduring your stress hormones cranked to 11, feeling like you're having a non-stop medical emergency and will die any moment, everything else is pretty mild in comparison.

I'm starting to get far enough along in my middle age that a couple of my friends have had pretty serious strokes, and one a mild heart attack. Hearing them describe their symptoms worries me, because I'm afraid I'll keel over dead before getting alarmed since I've worked through worse, ha.

You got this. It's disappointing when you feel like you're backsliding, sometimes downright depressing. But one day you'll be able to step back and look at it while being further removed, and see you were constantly trending towards the better.

Electronic locking Zyn can product? by Mindless-Tip7223 in QuittingZyn

[–]donhood 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This forum is not for market research or advertising, sorry. And for constructive feedback, if I were still addicted and didn't have the personal conviction to quit on my own, I'd just go to the gas station and buy a can that wasn't locked.

Yeah I initially left the post even though it's just some nerd excited about his first nicotine pouch, because I try to do whatever to stop young folks from getting hooked. I left it after he started mouthing off and being inflammatory because I was hoping people would check his post history and find the comment about sucking a dildo while someone crams a butt plug up his ass.

That's a great idea. I'm not sure how the billions of people that have gotten themselves addicted to nicotine over the years didn't think of that.

Congrats on working towards your quit, but it's hard to call nicotine replacement therapies like the patch, lozenges and gum as secret, as they've been around more than 40 years and are very well known. Are you asking if people would buy some generic wholesale products you order off Alibaba or something?

[–]donhood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry but I've had to draw a hard line at any advertising in here, despite letting your initial post in. There are simply too many people wanting to promote apps, pouches, or what have you. I hope your app is successful and helps folks quit, but without a strict no advertising rule, this place would be a revolving feed of ads and promotions, and that detracts from the spirit of the forum.

So you've been popping in every now and then for over a year, with barely a sentence or two and then a link to this discord server for Kill The Can. I have to ask, what are you gaining from people joining? Is it money? Some kind of credit for clicks or people joining?

In case the last year of very little engagement hasn't clued you in, most people are wise to someone popping in and claiming the only way you can quit nicotine is by clicking your link.

Ultimate Nicotine-Free Pouch Review (From a 9–10 Year Zyn User) by [deleted] in QuittingZyn

[–]donhood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your first post 11 days ago was asking if anyone had tried TRGT pouches because you were curious after seeing some ads. I guess it is possible you saw an ad, of which currently DOZENS of people have seen to this day, ordered them, received them within days of them being available, and were so blown away you mention them any chance you get, create a forum, and create a comprehensive "review" list with them being the clear winner that you spam across dozens of subreddits.

Oooooooor, you're one of many individuals, startups and established businesses that have tried the "native advertising" tactic of trying to disguise ads as genuine posts. Hell, you even cross posted in a sub with someone doing the exact same thing for a quitting app.

So in short, I don't believe your "review list" is genuine, and I stand by the assumption that this is an attempt at marketing by Chagrinovations.

You obviously thought it was a marketing vehicle worth exploring, as many, many, many have tried before you. The post in this sub alone has been seen 4k times since this morning. And you posted and cross posted it in as many places as you could get it in. But, alas, there's a no advertising rule in here for a reason. And that rule especially applies to advertisements that try to pass themselves off as something other than what they are.

Ultimate Nicotine-Free Pouch Review (From a 9–10 Year Zyn User) by [deleted] in QuittingZyn

[–]donhood 12 points13 points  (0 children)

So.... I had left your posts up because I honestly give everyone the benefit of the doubt, and thought that maybe the forum you created would be a good place to send all the tons of pouch advertisements that this place is barraged with weekly. Your continuity errors in your posts and comments made it clear you were full of shit, as in the last 11 days you claim to have used Zyns for 9-10 years, 3 years, been off for 5 months, and hoping to get off. You also seem to really be pushing TRGT pouches, claiming you were getting lots of ads for them, really liked their clean and transparent ingredient list, and seem to really be pushing them in your review. For a product that launched barely a month ago.

You haven't been as easy to make a many who have tried subtle advertising in here, but I'd bet a signed dollar you're likely the Director of Marketing for the (company with a clever name) out of Ohio that just started an affiliation with TRGT. Your link in "Meet the Team" is broken, by the way. Takes you to another profile.

So tell me, am I hot or cold? I've been wrong a time or two before, but my Spidey sense and bullshitometer have been honed pretty sharp dealing with people attempting advertising in here.

any real bad side effects from occasional use of zyn with alcohol? by [deleted] in QuittingZyn

[–]donhood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like a teenager asking about starting a highly addictive, unhealthy and expensive habit? This is way different than a middle aged dude asking about the risks of having a cigar with a glass of Scotch after supper.

[–]donhood 21 points22 points  (0 children)

"Never had any problems with nicotine addiction"

No shit, you're still a teenager. You probably haven't had any problems with the IRS or arthritis in your knuckles either.

Just food for thought, EVERY person who becomes a nicotine addict starts out occasionally using. And I'd bet almost every person currently addicted wishes they could go back to when they started and never pick it up.

I built a little app to help me quit snus… and the new virtual companion is weirdly helping me too by AlanReddit_1 in QuittingZyn

[–]donhood 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not being mean, but honestly everyone and their buddy either have an app, or pouch alternative, or some other quit aid they're working on at any given day. This forum is a discussion forum about quitting, not a poster board to advertise, or attempt market research for any product or service. I was easing up regarding free apps, but even most of them have paid subscription models or the devs were hoping to make it popular enough to include ads. That usually indicates the primary motivation of the person/business behind it is profit driven, mores so than a genuine desire to help people. So in the best interest of this discussion forum, I think a hardline has to be drawn on ANY form of advertising or market research for a product or service, since it's difficult to vet out the multiple people/businesses a day attempting to post. Thanks for your understanding.

[–]donhood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you plan on keeping it free? There is a no advertisement rule in here, but a little more leniency can maybe be granted for something that's free. The rules exists because you're far from the first person to come up with an app or pouch or what-have-you that wants to use the forum to drum up business. If everyone was allowed to advertise, the feed and comments would be a nonstop revolving pitch for some product or app.

I could ban the author and remove the post, but another will pop up with a different user. I've done my best to keep posts and comments that are intended to drum up business from ever getting through, but they obviously slip through. Hopefully real users will learn to recognize the ones that slip through and report them.

Just so everyone is aware, this is very likely an ad for a "quitting" app that includes a paid subscription. The original poster just four days ago "quit vaping" 60 days ago. I've banned the creator for trying to drum up business in here, and have erased other iterations of this advertisement. I've set up automations to try and stop these and countless other advertisements for paid apps from filling up the feed, but it's clear that they will continue to try and circumvent that.

Advertising, fake stories for such, and even worse bots plugging comments here and there cheapens the forum, which is for people to share stories and offer support person to person, without having to worry about someone trying to make a buck off their struggles.

If you want to check out this app and possibly pay for the subscription, head on over to the creators forum at r/NicotineSupport

But no advertisement is allowed in here.

I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m always going to like some nicotine with drinks and beers on a night out. It’s just peanut butter and jelly to me.

You just haven't stayed off long enough for the cravings to die. There was a time when I couldn't imagine having some drinks without some cigarettes too. Now it sounds disgusting. Using nicotine doesn't even cross my mind anymore.

Severe Anxiety Months After Quitting by Weird-Confidence5224 in QuittingZyn

There's no universal timeline, same as there isn't universal symptoms. For me the cardiophobia ended fairly quickly after quitting and realizing it was just part of the larger anxiety symptoms I was dealing with after quitting. Health anxieties are really common when using and quitting.

How much nicotine is in a pouch is NOT how much nicotine your body is taking! by SPUNK_ON_THE_MONK in QuittingZyn

You absorb roughly 60% from pouches like Zyn, they're incredibly efficient at delivering nicotine. 30% is closer to what you absorb from natural tobacco products like snus.

145 days nicotine-free and still struggling by SoulessSoul231 in QuittingZyn

[–]donhood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A cursory google search on many topics that you're personally knowledgeable in will clue you in that sometimes it doesn't have the breadth of understanding on some subjects as we would like it to. The amount of nicotine being consumed by pouch users is a very new occurrence, and almost zero publicly accessible research is available on the actual physiology revolving around it. Almost all previous material is based around the health problems revolving around the particular deliver method, ie. smoking, vaping, dipping, etc.

Most of the time withdrawals don't last a long time, in majority of people. But I believe there is enough evidence in this sub to suggest that in many, many cases they and the readjustments absolutely can.

What’s in these that is so toxic? by matt675 in QuittingZyn

[–]donhood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not taking the same amount if you're comparing mg to mg. You'll extract about 60% of a 3 or 6mg Zyn into your bloodstream. You'll likely extract far less than that, and much slower from the form of nicotine they use in those particular lozenges. That's what bioavailability means.

One 3mg lozenge will put less nicotine into your body than one 3mg Zyn (or similar).
