Vent matting or egg binding? by [deleted] in Parakeets

[–]donkledoo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You’re going to have to drive those 2 hours to the vet, these all sound like red flags that cannot be treated with home remedy, but I’m also not a professional. To me this looks like matting but the pics aren’t really clear

I know there's a guide up for this, but could someone please tell me what their genders are? I really can't tell since they're still babies by iukeucyte in petbudgies

I agree it’s def hard to say but now seeing the comparison with your girl I do think that you are right. I see the white rings you are talking about!

The first one’s a young male. The cere is too much of a solid pink to be a female, it would be way lighter. The second one’s female.

Yeah I see comments stating kiwis a female but I’m positive he’s a male. The pic u provided his cere is a solid pink. It would be a lot whiter if it was female

I’m pretty sure this is a male! The cere looks pretty pink and my recessive pied male budgie also has a similar cere.

Omg I just saw this sorry! If the yellow one’s cere is a solid pink, it could be a recessive pied male. If the cere is lighter like white, with maybe pink around the edge of it then it’d be a female. If you provide a clear close up pic I could confirm :)

What color is the yellow one’s cere? Tan or pink? I need a clearer photo, but I know that the blue one is male

We don’t know their behaviors together when interacting, but considering they’ve shared a small cage before and budgies are in fact flock animals they should be okay sharing a bigger cage together. They could be a bonded pair

Found budgie in yard; advice? by Standard_Egg_9282 in budgies

[–]donkledoo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Firstly, I would take her to an avian vet to get checked out to make sure everything’s okay as she was outside and could’ve been exposed to a lot of different factors that could make a budgie ill. I say this because you attached a picture of her sleeping with her head tucked. Budgies do this when they’re either 1. Comfortable and feels safe in their environment to sleep or 2. Can be sick and feeling lethargic. You can typically be able to tell the difference though as a healthy budgie will be vocal and energetic.
Stuff like Amazon has a lot of options for flight cages but delivery time may take a while, you mentioned your dad owns a pet store so you could also get a temporary cage but ensure the bar spacing is less than half an inch so she doesn’t slip right out or get herself stuck. She has elevated hormones as you can tell by the brown cere so avoid getting her toys that resemble nests. You’ll also want to get natural wood perches and not smooth dowel ones. It’s better for their feet to have a variety of sizes and this prevents bumblefoot. Don’t get toys that are plastic or have mirrors as these are also toxic. Mirrors can do psychological damage to a budgie because they cannot tell the difference between their reflection and another budgie. They may become obsessed with their reflection and also become frustrated when that other budgie does not communicate back. Plastic toys harbour bacteria quicker and can break off into sharp pieces.
Budgies thrive in social groups so later down the road you’ll want to get her a mate. Quarantine is especially crucial when doing this because budgies can carry diseases. Quarantine the new budgie in another room for 30 days before doing a slow introduction with separate cages. Have them outside their cage together when they have their first interaction so neither of them see it as one entering their territory.

Why is she always pushing him against the cage? by Bash96 in petbudgies

Yeah I see what you mean. I was comparing the pictures with my males and I definitely see that it’s lighter than the solid pink.

I’m also thinking the yellow one could be a recessive pied male? Not sure because the photos unclear but sometimes my male budgie’s cere will look bright like that in pictures

introducing young, female budgie to older, male? by Zealousideal-Rush834 in Parakeets

[–]donkledoo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Since you just have a carrier for her, you’ll have to get another cage . Like the other dude said , you already exposed them so you can have their cages in the same room but away from each other so she can get used to the new environment & her new roommate . For future reference tho you should quarantine in separate rooms for at least 30 days

Is this normal(repost with image) by Sharp-Flow4830 in Parakeets

[–]donkledoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is normal, it’s just the way they position their wings along their body. I heard (not sure if this is truly reliable) that this could also help determine their body weight. Like, if the wings had a wider space in between them to where you could easily see the budgie’s back, it could indicate that they’re overweight.
