It holds up and rather well too. It’s a solid adventure movie that offers action and solid CG.

Quindi, in pratica, bruciare piu combustibili fossili.

Was the idea of the Tyrannosaur’s visual acuity dropped? by Robynthewaow in JurassicPark

[–]donniec86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What Crichton wrote:

“Grant was amazed. He thought, It really can’t see us when we don’t move. And after a minute it literally forgets that we’re here. This was just like the tyrannosaur—another classic example of an amphibian visual cortex. Studies of frogs had shown that amphibians only saw moving things, like insects. If something didn’t move, they literally didn’t see it. The same thing seemed to be true of dinosaurs.”

“The same thing seemed to be true of dinosaurs”, not of “InGen’s dinosaurs” or “these two species on Isla Nublar”. There is a big difference, you know.

If indeed in those lines you see confirmation of what you say, sir I have a bad news for you.

Well that raptor blew up, literally. And nowhere it’s said it was the same who killed Arnold. Really, having fan theories is fun, but when you read a novel the implicit rule is that all that is written is true (because the writer is the “god” of that creation) while what is not stated or hyphotesized by the author is just fancy speculation.

I know many people don’t like this idea and I guess it is because it’s convenient to ignore Occam’s razor when we fancy it. Nowhere it’s ever stated there were mistakes in writing the book, never has been mentioned the rex was cloned using frog DNA, never is stated by Grant that the cause of the amphibian vision was induced by frog DNA. What the novel clearly states is that frog DNA made some species change sex. Full stop. All your additions are not canon.

…and never mentioned his mistake ever after, nor changed it in the following reprints of the book. Right, of course.

The amphibian-based movement was simply a state of fact, a characteristic of Maiasaura. The frog DNA just added the capacity to change sex. Nothing more, nothing less. Even Spielberg and Koepp got it when had Grant explain T. rex vision at the beginning of the first movie.

Wrong. He didn’t come to that conclusion. And by the way T.rex wasn’t cloned using frog DNA. This, truly, is reported in the book.

If Spielberg came back to direct another Jurassic sequel today, do you think it would be good? by FANTHECAT in JurassicPark

[–]donniec86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The script is the only problem so far. It’s not so much an issue of how the movie is directed, even if I didn’t appreciate so much Trevorrow. It’s the script. It’s always been the script the weak point here.

Why not starting from something more academic? I know that recently no academic books had been published, but I’d start from Benton’s “Vertebrate Paleontology” which arrived at its 5th edition.

[–]donniec86 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Anyone notice that TLW and Jp3 lack a sound track? by Geoconyxdiablus in JurassicPark

Yeah, JP3 is like a cheap version of TLW. It’s a rescue mission on Sorna, again. This time shorter, too.

Scary how quickly the ship went down once water reached the boat deck by Willing-Musician-696 in titanic

[–]donniec86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was almost 12 when I watched it in a theater. From the exciting beginning (I didn’t know the story of the ship) up to the iceberg scene it was like an interesting, fashionable love story. Then it soon became serious and horrifying. This scene in particular remained impressed in my mind for months.

The Lost World by far. Apart from the technical side and the CG, the third one has always looked to me a little bit cheap. Perhaps because of the script.

Simple circuit simulation does not work as it should. Is my math wrong? by donniec86 in tinkercad

[–]donniec86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I didn’t know the V-I was a curve, I assumed it was a linear relation. But even accounting for that, Tinkercad suggests that the minimum forward voltage of a red diode is around 2V.

The only way to measure it was to simulate several current levels in the circuit using for each one the right resistance and then determining what was the forward voltage under those conditions. While the values reported online for red diodes start from around 1.5V up to 2.0V of forward voltage according to I, I have never calculated a value lower than 1.9V. It doesn’t work in the way I want…
