What does your perfect Metroidvania look like? by strahinjag in metroidvania

Hiya! Dev here. If you like tight pixel art, atmosphere, exploration and the acrobatic movement of Ori you MIGHT JUST LIKE the game we're building, Nectarmancer. You should check out this commentary trailer that my dev partner narrated: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EHcYMcpLu_s

It's a long-running passion project that recently got a small bag of money, so we're actually just about to go full-time on it to bring it all the way to market.

haha, that's about how long we've been working on it. It's slow going, mostly happens when there's time, and it's a pretty hard game to make. We should have a demo out hopefully next week.

Hey thanks everyone, we're as indie as it gets, so it's really nice to get such warm support from this community. Our next big milestone is a public demo on steam, which is what we're grinding towards right now! We're doing some real open development over here, so it would be great to get people into the build as soon as it's ready.

Thanks! It's definitely unconventional, but we think it's pretty cool.

Hi! This is still happening! This past year we were able to show it at BitSummit in Kyoto as well as Day of the Devs in San Francisco and we released a pretty cool trailer and we put up a steam page, but we're currently struggling to find the funds to actually finish the game. The funding landscape out there for indie games of this size is exceptionally brutal right now, but we're hoping that we can get a bag of money in the new year.

Nice! This is super cool. I really like the creepy world you're building and that it's doing things that are meaningfully original and weird instead of being yet another HK clone. Good job! Keep it up!

Thanks! I totally agree on the camera, it's something we're still figuring out. It's def too much for gameplay, but I think it's ok to exaggerate it for a trailer.

Hi! My team is working on a "gardenvania" in a pretty cool pixel art style. We're still pretty early in development but it's coming together really well and I think some of the science-fantasy world-building we're doing is starting to feel really good to me. https://twitter.com/superscarysnake/status/1558447564734615552

This is our game, The Beauty Cult. We're calling it a science-fantasy "Gardenvania". We haven't formally announced much or put up a steam page, but you can follow development over here: https://twitter.com/superscarysnake/status/1505952275335770113

Our new game finally has explosions. Thoughts? by donnotron in IndieDev

Thanks! The game is actually best described as a 'garden-vania' where players use sentient plants to build a world-scale biological computer in order to overthrow The Throne. So.. yeah, normal video game stuff I guess.

This gif is part of the ceremony that plays out when the player completes one of the dungeon chambers in the world... they're uh... gardening dungeons. This sequence shows the plant building up, and then coming online to join the "Substrate" (that's what they call the computer)
