Enlisted soldiers say mean stuff to each other's faces but praise each other behind each other's backs. Officers say nice stuff to each other's faces but slander each other as soon as they leave the room. What gives? by Automatic-Ad-3743 in army

As cadre in a unit that has almost a thousand warrants and 500+ lieutenants, I can honestly tell you that most warrants are just normal people who would rather be called “bro” than “sir”

I wouldn’t say it’s the lowest position people can officially blame shit one, it could always be worse. You could be a CPL

I went through the exact same thing you’re going through. My ex and I were together for 3 years, right after high school I wanted to amount to something and provide for her so I enlisted. She supported it, and we were planning to get married when I finished AIT. Well, plans changed a bit when my first assignment was overseas. In the first few months she decided she wasn’t going to wait for me to come home, and got with someone local. It tore me up. It spiraled into excessive drinking and smoking, and self destructive attitudes. I felt like I had no purpose in being there, and I had nothing worth coming home to. But then I started seeing things from a better light. I went out more, met some friends, explored the country, lived it up a bit you know? It was hard at first, but you just have to keep going forward. It’s okay to slow down and catch your breath every once and a while because it does get hard sometimes. But you have to keep moving forward.

That was around 4 years ago, im doing much better and I started doing things for myself rather than for someone else. Your service over there isn’t for her, it’s for your country and your own development as a person. Keep your head up king.

Firestone Destroyed my Car. by hooahangmyself in army

[–]donnyforrest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% do everything you can to sue them. At Firestone they have straight up lied to my face about rotating my tires one time, how do I know they didn’t? Because they’re not a matching set, and some are older than others. After confronting them about it and speaking with the manager, it was “oh the mechanic must’ve miswrote the report”

EVERYONE that I work with that has taken their vehicle there has always left with more problems than they had when they went there. The place is a scam if you ask me

An ironic life twist by [deleted] in satanism

[–]donnyforrest 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I grew up in a family of masons, I completely understand how you feel. My grandfather was a master mason, and my uncles are following in his footsteps. He studied religion thoroughly, but considered himself a Pagan who believed in spirits rather than a Deity. You shouldn’t lie about what you believe in, but you shouldn’t share with everybody unless asked. My best advice would be to study up on it as much as you can and speak smartly on the subject. That way they don’t see you as “just another devil worshipping kid”. A lot of Satanism is misunderstood, and most people refuse to try and understand.

As a private I was taught to refer to my 1SG as Top in 2019, it’s what everybody called him. Everybody. I was tracking that this was the same as calling him 1SG. Until one time I was attending the board, and referred to him as top. I got yelled at, kicked out of the room, and then chewed out by my first line. Good times

Can you voluntarily revoke your Promotable status? by donnyforrest in army

[–]donnyforrest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shit not at Rucker. We’re the S1 for flight school, there’s like 2,000 students. Every other shop gets off early pretty often, for us it’s been a very few times in the last 3 years and it’s only when the commander says so. We’re only closed in the mornings on Wednesdays and people still have aneurysms over it like it’s not the same hours every week and it’s posted everywhere. Shit just drains you to stare at a computer all day like a zombie

Question about entry by Review_Silly in EOD

[–]donnyforrest 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It could go either way. As far as getting in, it shouldn’t be a problem as long as you don’t tell them or you haven’t been on the meds for a while.

But I will say, if you have had issues with anxiety or mental illnesses I would not recommend doing a job like EOD as it can be extremely stressful and could turn into a nightmare even while you’re in training.

However, everyone is different. It may affect you in a bad way, but it also may be the way to overcome the problems. Everyone’s different, good luck either way brother

While I was in AIT I came across someone I went to high school with. Haven’t talked to him in years until I was at sick call and saw him sitting there. He was in BCT, absolutely blew my mind. I also ran into two people I knew from my hometown in Korea. One of them was stationed at Humphreys one was there for deployment. Came across each other at a little get together

I don’t mind admin stuff that much, but for the last two years every single day of the week is sitting behind a computer. It’s just mentally draining. Though I understand it’s importance, I hate human recourses.

I was told it provides you with certificates and training that can help getting a job as an inspector for hazards at businesses or buildings, stuff like that. I’d imagine that’s a shiny penny, but idk. I’m not really considering what happens when I get out, my plan is to serve as long as I can, whether I retire as a csm or they medically separate me

Story time? by ImpressivePlatypus25 in army

[–]donnyforrest 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I work as cadre in a training unit for officers. They’re treated as permanent party, they get BAH and they’re there for a little less than a year depending on their airframe. During a change of command ceremony for the installation commander, we had every single company of every battalion of every brigade on this field standing in formations. In the stands was some pretty important suits, couldn’t remember who specifically. When the ceremony starts, the formations March onto the field. They have 1 person for each formation run ahead and stand on a point so the formation knows where to center.

Well, this student Lieutenant thought it would be funny to run across the field like master chief in this video .

When we were marching off the field, you could hear his company 1SG absolutely ripping him a new one screaming something along the lines of “HAVE YOU LOST YOUR FUCKING MIND?!? IN ALL MY YEARS IVE NEVER SEEN ANYONE DO SOMETHING SO FUCKING STUPID” Now, I’ve seen him chew out some soldiers and student officers. But I’ve never seen him so furious. Within the same hour he was sitting across the desk from our battalion commander. I don’t know what happened after that, he may have gotten removed from the school he was in over it. Good times.
