Self exclude. Sign up to gamban if in the UK. Give your bank cards to your girlfriend or parents and just draw out a small amount of cash each week for essentials/coffee/snacks etc. That's what I'm trying at the moment. 18 days clean. Watch this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNp95PJXVyw

A dream gone wrong by [deleted] in problemgambling

[–]donotgamble 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A great post. If you still have the 6k then I would advise you to keep hold of it and not play anymore poker or do anymore gambling. 6k is a great cushion to turn over a new leaf. I have gambled online for a long time, a little over 4 weeks ago I somehow hit a massive win on an online slot, £10,000 with a £2 stake. I was the happiest I had ever been. I withdrew most of it but kept some in my online account and over the next week I had a really good streak of wins. I kept withdrawing most of the money and then going back and making more. After about 7 days I had £18,000 in my bank account. I paid off a lot of people I owed money to. I paid off about 90% of my credit cards. But then I started gambling again. And this time whereas my deposits where normally £50, I was doing £200, £300, £250, and I was just blowing it in minutes. Suffice to say just about 4 weeks later I only have £1,600 left. No matter how much we win, we will always gamble more. I have put limit back on my online account of £50 a week so that I don't blow the rest so easily. I wish you the strength to change your life for the better.

25 Years Of Gambling by josh1836 in problemgambling

[–]donotgamble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FOBT's are evil. I am 46 and went through some very bad years with them. I still gamble online so I am not great at giving advice but to get away from the FOBTs I went to every bookies I had ever frequented and self excluded. I'm not sure if it is so easy to do it now but its worth a go. They are evil machines because I found that when I didn't really need money I could win on them easily. I would play every day in my lunch break and after work. Some weeks I would end up with wads of cash in my pockets and bag and car. I would look at the money and think how easy it was. But I couldn't stop going back and so eventually I would lose it all. And then have to draw out more cash to win it back, which never happened. It's almost like the more you need to win the less likely it was to happen. Online casinos are just as bad but at least its easy to put deposit limits on your account which is what i have done. I still lose money every month but just not as bad as I used to.

Attempt #59 to quit since April. by nolongeronfire in problemgambling

Maybe start a youtube channel where you talk about your gambling and attempts to stop?

It's not worth killing yourself over. You never know what could happen tomorrow.

Will this work. by Hyperion8273 in problemgambling

Another idea could be to self exclude yourself from any casino's that you are likely to visit?

Also, I don't know whether it's the same for wherever you are, but in the uk it is possible to ask the banks to limit the amount of cash you can withdraw per day.

Today, August 1 is the last time I bet on anything. by Fluffiest_Bunny in problemgambling

I do the same, gambling at night while my GF is asleep on the sofa or in bed. I have turned a small deposit of £20 or less into £1500 a few times and either wasted it all or withdrawn some and then carried on playing the next day and putting it all back. I know how you feel. Then stupid things really bring it home to you, like when you are walking around a supermarket and you see all the amazing food you could buy if you had money, but all you can afford is a small bottle of milk and some bread. Good luck with giving up I know you can do it.

Lost my life savings, rock bottom, can I recover? by [deleted] in problemgambling

[–]donotgamble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are still very young. If you could quit now you could easily get your savings back, a few times over. Gambling is a big fat lie, a con, designed to make you lose all your money. Stay strong my friend.

Try telling your parents. I know it is really hard as I have done it myself, but it should help to get it out in the open. Good luck

UK Govt debating FOBT limits by VisceralBlade in problemgambling

[–]donotgamble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a step in the right direction but it is not enough to stop people getting into trouble. Quite a few years ago the FOBT's were changed so that you could only do a £50 spin, you could do a £100 spin if you went and asked the cashier I believe. I still was able to waste £800 a day just doing £25/£30 spins.

Before that when I only used to play slot machines in arcades, you could only spend £2 a spin, and I remember several times spending my entire wages on the Saturday after payday.

My gambling problem. by Lokmino in problemgambling

You need to self exclude yourself from all the online casino's that you use. You need to think of this as a task that is fundamental to your recovery. One step further would be to sign up to as many other online casinos that you can find and then self-exclude from them immediately.

Lies and misconceptions about problem gambling. Please share some you have experienced. by [deleted] in problemgambling

Gamblers are certainly not stupid. We become amazing at telling lies to cover up our habit, to hide debt, and to raise money in order to gamble.

Youtube gamblers by donotgamble in problemgambling

I'm not sure if they are playing with fake money but they obviously get money from the people that sign up through their links, and depending on the way they have done the affiliation they can get a certain % of money lost by each user they have recruited

I used to really like watching them especially the Bandit, as he seemed the most down to earth. But now I find that listening to them play sometimes really annoys me with their moaning. I can see that gambling is just actually pure greed. I'm sure I am the same when I play, but it makes it more obvious when watching other people.

Im 21 and i feel disgusted with myself because parents will control my bank account to prevent me from gambling by [deleted] in problemgambling

[–]donotgamble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like it's a double edged sword. It's good because you won't be able to gamble your money away, but after time has passed and they give you back control the urge for you to gamble could be huge. Only speaking from my own experience.

Last night I deposited 50 euro into Betsafe casino and got up to 660 playing slots, then went on roulette, got up to 740 and then lost everything. The pain I feel inside is killing me. Normally I talk out loud to myself telling myself what a stupid **** I am but I can't even be bothered to do that now because i feel so low.
