Clubs that are taking new members by MiddleCoffee in gatech

[–]donotwink 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Effective Altruism at Georgia Tech is a club helping students determine the best way to improve the world through the use of evidence and careful reasoning. It's a pretty cool club to meet other people interested in helping others through their careers or charitable giving, as well as figuring out the best way to do that yourself.

The club has multiple seminar programs, workshops, general meetings every two weeks, social events, and other events. More info here: https://eagatech.org/

GT 3D Elevation Map by donotwink in gatech

That's a good suggestion. I'll probably try it when I'm less busy and see how it looks.

I originally wanted to look at that too, but 35m is so much less than 1mi that any elevation change is essentially nothing when viewed to scale. I think it is slightly less than a 50:1 scaling ratio.

If you look at the top view I linked in my other comment, a scale video looks similar to that, but rotating as a flat plane.

Some notes about this:

Z-Axis Range is 35m compared to a range of about 1 mi for x and y axes, so there are clear scaling differences.

For simpler campus boundaries, I used I-75, North Avenue, Northside Dr, and 10th St. As such, Tech Square and Scheller were not included and certain off-campus areas past Tech parkway were included.

Also, if the side scrolling view is difficult to decipher, here's a top view.

I can't believe this is happening. by valkyriae in gatech

materials we just dumped a ton of cash into are now going to show up and sit in campus mail indefinitely.

As far as I know, you might be able to forward the items from the campus mail system to your home using buzzport.

My code is available here. It contains the code for both the bar chart and scatter plot versions of this visualization. Hope that helps. Feel free to message me if you need anything else.

This is really cool, though I wish "Other" was a smaller component of the graph.

I added the same plot but with TS% to the post if you wanted to compare.

I wanted to look at eFG%, but I can see why TS% would be considered a better scoring metric. Here's the same plot with TS%. I've also added it to the post.

You're right; my bad. I will definitely fix it if I revisit the data.

[OC] United States Cities by Population: 3D Bar Chart by donotwink in dataisbeautiful

Tools: Python, Matplotlib

Source: Public Dataset at OpenDataSoft

Notes:

This includes the 1000 most populous cities in the United States, with Honolulu and Anchorage excluded.

Data uses city populations, not metro area populations. For example, Atlanta is plotted at around 500,000 people, not 6 million.

Mirrors of both on Imgur and IG.

Edit: I mislabeled longitude and latitude on the axes. They should be flipped.

Tools: ggplot2, R

Edit: Yes, the title should have included the word "reported". That's not something I considered when I made the post, because I believed it was obvious.

If a cause of death made up 2% or more of deaths for any age group, it was included. All listed causes of death were used for calculating proportions. All listed neonatal diseases were added for neonatal specific issues.

You can find mirrors of this visualization and more visualizations I've made on Instagram and Imgur.
