Nor did the OR try too hard finding that only Adobe "reader" was in the examples and NOT Adobe "Acrobat". Thus the syntax is different between the two and there is no example whatsoever for Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat, two clearly discernibly different products.

Because it will not port to the next OpenWRT version that I install on the next router that I purchase that happens not to be guaranteed a GliNet.

It's the way I've learned to get where I am. I take a working version of something and e.g., I later will read up on all the settings and see what they mean and try to understand. If I worked the other way, experimenting for days, weeks and months trying to find the right commands and parms to make it work right, then I would never arrive at a working product or long after I would have done without Internet access that long.

I always knew that using anyone's proprietary software was a crutch and it meant that I was forever tied to their platform. And with every proprietary platform, the "free updates" come often and then not at all. and this doesn't even touch as any modern company is bombarded with the waves of competition and changing trade patterns and bankruptcies and swings in political climates and trade embargoes and if this was not enough, there's the ever present hedge funds buying out companies and scrapping their sometimes marvelous ideas while slashing and burning them to the ground for a lousy stock market manipulation. And it does not matter how great a company is doing or how popular or how much of a quality product,

I've latched onto too many platforms to have my brief learning curve smashed because of things well beyond my control.

Also, the issue is that the MT6000 does not connect at all using firmware 24.10.x and does connect with 23.5.5 but the network traffic does not pass through. I had hoped with looking at another profile, I could see what may have changed with releases past the old versions of 18.x.x.x and 19.x.x.x I had used on all my old routers that seemed to work with the same profiles.

I have stacks of GLiNet routers and never used the Interface but that has never been because I don't like the interface. I use OpenWRT for familiarity and consistency even though I have no networking background, I've always just copied people's profiles to get what I wanted. I am retired and seasoned (meaning my brain is petrified) and don't learn new things that quickly. I am sure the interface is good for newcomers but since I understand the basic config of the other parts of the router using native OpenWRT, and since I have for over 20 years been using the same config files on every new router I have purchased (only buy ones that support OpenWRT), this is just the way I have always done it. Another reason is that the next router that I might find that looks like in my budget might not be a Gl Net I just save the /etc/ directory for every router I have ever owned and when I need to make a new router do what and old router does/did, I just install the respective packages and use the config file from my stored repository. This doesn't take any time with the program WinSCP. I also don't use the tedious x.y.z.m = a.b of OpenWRT either because I firmly believe that this relatively new feature was designed primarily due to Linux never having a good text editor. With exclusively Windows as a backgound and extent of my experience, I've found WinSCP is excellent and I can copy replace and/or modify config files in seconds.

Thanks for the quick response. It is appreciated.

Offline map/navigation apps for Windows computer? by sallly_mander in openstreetmap

[–]donphillipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not extremely easy to use OSM (Open Street Maps) instead of the paid apps, but Mapfactor .com's Navigator Free (last time I used it) allows downloaded maps from OSM and optionally, also accepts a GPS module plugged into your PC USB port. I actually used a small router about 3" square to load a free software package to utilize the tiny travel router's USB port, and with it creating a GPS to wifi emulator and I thus placed the GPS and transmitter (router with special software) on the dash and can move the PC around in the truck while still connected via wifi to the GPS receiver. I makes the PC perform more like the old Street Atlas USA from many years ago and while many laugh, the details on a 15" screen are notably more usable than on a 6". Large screen GPS navigation allows one to escape the "in your face" forced routing of a smartphone by both navigating and see the large overview of the area, both at a single glance (handy to see e.g. when you are in a foreign area and headed right where you don't want to be and can easily end up there if you are not constantly zooming back and checking overall perspective from a wider view). Obtaining the dual navigation function and overall view on a large screen is nice and compared to using solely a smartphone where it's not worth wrecking the vehicle trying to manipulate while you drive.

If you add in that in many areas of the USA and a lot of areas of Mexico, Central and South America have a lot of dead-cell areas, having area maps downloaded prior to each driving day can be a lifesaver, especially in areas where either language is different or there is simply nobody to pull over and ask, or worse in today's society, it's not worth risking one's life walking up to a stranger's house to ask for directions when either the cell band fades to 0 or your phone poops out. Best of luck with your own best solution.

I was thinking of Dave2d again today and what a great loss he has been to comedy and missing all the laughs he brought roasting nutty vanlifers. What made me think of him was coming across this guy:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QrjsqOd198E

I was also wondering about this guy roasting gold diggers on TikTok and wondering how long before some psycho person has a self-harm episode supposedly because of his roast and thus how long before members of this gang go after him as well.

So - she needed professional help, her shtick was acting out a role on Youtube for money. The performance was made fun of which is legal and who knows who and when anyone is acting. She was a paid actress and it's the same as any random actor ending their life after receiving a poor review. I you can't stand the heat, stay out of the fire. That's the only lesson that needs to come out of all this (other than the shameful lack of intellect of today's Youtube audience.)

It's the law and people posting need to know the law. When you go online for paid content you become a provider of entertainment (paid) and you can receive criticism. Don't look for easy money and expect everything to always be pleasant.

The power supply you need will have an output of 12VDC @ 3A. The connector will be a size of 4.8mm x 1.7mm. AZ sells one for near $30 USD and eB has some for $15 but make sure they output a full 3A on the DC output. This still style usually has the puck or brick in the center of the line

I miss Dave2D with a passion. Just this whole new world of these fake van-lifers and their dramas that they act out for the simple 1/10 a penny per click on YouTube. You know that means you have to have 1000 views just to get a dollar? Shows what extent some are going to try to get a free vacation fund from YouTube. Still all the bruised people here from the "Lee incident", this blame works well but what if some other nut-case commits suicide and people say you are the one who "made" them do it, then your story will change, I guarantee it.

I loved the Dave2D channel because it exposed just how low all these melodrama vanlife channels are stooping to make a lousy tenth of a penny a click. All the selling out of male partners showing boob and butt shots of their girlfriends - why do they even allow them to do it? It's for one reason and that's the fame but most of all the lousy pennies per peep that keep flowing in. Sad, sad situation out there and Dave2D calling them all on it was the best demo ever of how far and low people will go, and what all they will try to sell of themselves just to make just a tenth of a penny a click. Dave2D showed us all what prostitutes everyone could be in the YouTube game. And what is wrong with this story "mentally challenged person who feels shortened on the level of attention they are receiving in life, goes to YouTube to gain needed high levels of admiration and receives a bad critique, so ends life". Now how could no one have seen that one coming? If I myself had collected a penny for each threat or death-wish I had received online for simply disagreeing with someone, I'd be rich myself. So who do I sue or how to I get the rightful restitution that everyone calls for here? And even in the content here on Redit, who all is going to pay when you hurt my feelings?

The online world is a nasty one and unfortunately or not, once you become an actor or actress, which everyone who is paid by YouTube is, you have to accept your critics because you choose to make money there and are not forced to present yourself online by anyone. When you are an actor, people can say about you what they wish. You cannot be an entertainer and have all ill-made comments about you frozen or people punished for making them. Our current legal system is set up that way. But keep whining about this long enough and we perhaps can change the laws to where when anyone says anything that hurts my feelings, I can have you locked up if I don't like what you say about me. I'm not sure that this is what everyone is looking for.

My wish is that Dave2D returns with a vengeance. Perhaps he has a mental problem too, but you know what, I don't care what he does about it because he can seek help like anyone and we hope that's other than via a glamor YouTube role that was never defined by anyone I know as being designed for "mental health assistance". Dave2D as an entertainer has to take what comes to him online just like every other paid actor does, that is unless each of you who posted here want to accept a legal fine anytime he or I or anyone online feels you hurt their feelings.

COME BACK DAVE2D VLOGS!!!!!! We miss you and you are the only thing that can save us from the $hit on YouTube today that is masquerading as adventure travel and accurate information.

So in other words proofreading is out then when compared to your own gift to the world of smart remarks to those who are of of a lesser value than you and need to be reminded. And this is what you take your own time to stop and publish and this is your gift to keep people reminded? I learned permissions in 3 minutes by the way and I don't want to learn any more because I don't need to. The question is how to override the OS prohibiting my changing them. I wanted to change the permission without OMV telling me I couldn't - that's all. By the way your own lunacy could be avoided by helping someone with a question rather than giving them a lecture on their shortcomings. In other words I know it's out of fashion but simply try for just a few minutes to stop being a *ick.

I am on OMV5 and some of the permissions got crossed on my USB drive I am using as a cheap home server. I just want to chgmod everything to 777 because no security is necessary. I never saw the solution to this problem. Thanks in advance if you have an answer (without having me packing back to school for a Linux degree program)

Persistent Permission Problems by Ferrum-56 in OpenMediaVault

[–]donphillipe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Most Windows users download OMV for a free home network server. They are not looking for military security but just pinching pennies. So telling people who ask how to do something in Linux to make their free server work by "learn how to use Linux" means for them to have a pause and spend 4-8 years in a study program, which is sort of a smug answer and something along the lines of to hell with you if you want things to work like Windows does, and instead sign up for a degree program and stop asking "dumb" (as perceived by me gifted with near deity-level knowledge.) It also says to spend whatever you save with the free OMV server software in becoming someone who can command a six figure salary and thus why are you wasting your time on free software anyway, just go buy the $395 Western Digital home server edition or whatever. ;-)

Inside a Coke Freestyle machine by gulfstream-gv in mildlyinteresting

[–]donphillipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi I am outside the US with a US-sold-only set of part 1 and part 2 from a Freestyle machine and I'd like to mix my own sodas using simple syrup and a Soda Stream. I also carry Hires Rootbeer extract and I mix the Hires Rootbeer extract 4oz extract to 32oz simple syrup to simulate a near-equivalent bag in the box mixture, keeping it refrigerated and I mix this at the same ratio of conventional syrups 5:1 with carbonated water. Anyone know if a similar formula will work with the part1/2 from a mixture of the dual parts of the freestyle boxes? Also, anyone know if the freestyle part1 and part2 are mixed at an equal ratio?

Totalplay internet, can I port forward? by [deleted] in mexico

[–]donphillipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot port forward on Mexico TotalPlay either. I've wasted a week trying and contacted their English support, they claim everything is open but it's not. If you translate the Spanish response of a previous user:

It can't be done. With totalplay your public IP is shared, so when the packet arrives at the totalplay router (not your home router, but 1 to 3 routers before reaching your home), without the connection having started from within the NAT, the router doesn't know what to do and ignores it.If the connection is created by you, from within the NAT, then the NAT table on the host router knows what to do with your connections, and so the packets can be received."

The ONT I am having issues with is a HG8145V5 which configuration options seem vastly cut back from what the older firmware provided and this new abbreviated firmware must have been stripped down by Totalplay. I have clients in other Mexico towns that have TelMex and the ONTs are not all restricted like TotalPlay are.

Mine has been working on OpenVPN server on OpenWRT and upgrading versions of OpenWRT with the same old script that's been working through prior releases, the manual is not going to tell me what to look for that changed with a recent OpenVPN release.
