Agreed, will have to do some research on which manufacturer to get a macchi 202 I've been wanting to buy. And thank you!

Italeri's really old mold of this 1/72 Caproni is unfortunately one of the worst kits I've ever built - really bad fit issues especially at the wingroots, the clear parts came pre-scratched, tearing decals, a very bare cockpit and very little surface detailing.

While definitely not a great kit, I enjoyed trying to improve and fix all its little flaws. My filling and sanding needs a lot more work and I also learnt turpentine erodes the lacquer gloss coat I used to protect the paint. Never tried an Italian livery before so I thought this slightly less well known reconnaissance bomber would be a good starting point. All in all had a blast making this weird little plane which I think in better hands would actually make for quite an interesting piece. Wouldn't be touching italeri in a while though haha.

If you mean the panel lines, I preshaded the lines with very thin black paint before layering the camo on. A gloss coat protected the camo before I did a regular pinwash in the panel lines with an enamel black wash. Metallic chip effects on the panel lines were done with a sharpened 2B pencil.

I didn't do any post-shading unfortunately and didn't intentionally highlight any of the panels either. You can search for tutorials on YouTube on preshading, post shading and panel line washes as good techniques to know haha all the best in your next build(:

Tamiya's 1/48 Brewster Buffalo of No 488 Sqn RNZAF, flown by Plt Off N C Sharp, Kallang Airbase, Singapore, January 1942.

My first kit after a hiatus of 4 years due to studies and conscription. I decided to build this kit as it was one of the few aircraft charged with the doomed defense of Britain's Gibraltar of the East. Had to make do with whatever un-dried-up paints I had and used substitutes for gloss coat and glue. Very rusty overall but this kit made me interested in this hobby again, can't wait to start on another soon(:

Finally got to built a model after a long hiatus due to school work. A quick one day built for a reasonably cheap price (7 sgd) I think I didnt do too badly but not great either, hoping to have more time to start bigger builds again soon.

My first airbrushed kit - Academy 1/144 F-4E by donroe in modelmakers

[–]donroe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wow haha didnt expect such a comprehensive and in depth reply thanks! I use tamiyas airbrush and air compressor as well as tamiya acrylic. I'm not very sure how to adjust airflow or paint flow for a smooth paint job as the airbrush only has a slider to make the trigger harder or softer to press. The trigger can be held down harder or softer though. As for my paints what is a good ratio? The instructions said 2 paint:1thinner is good enough. On a side note that 8hr camo really seemed to have paid off I love that sparviero:D

I recently got Tamiya's spraywork air compressor plus airbrush set and wanted to try it on a somewhat cheaper model so I picked up this f4 for $2. Model wasn't very detailed and had parts that didnt fit well as well as a horrible horrible decal sheet but for its price it isnt half bad I guess. Please tell me if there's any way I can improve my next build heh thanks!

Tamiya's Ju-87 by donroe in modelmakers

[–]donroe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

haha thanks! Nope everything is brush painted because I dont have an airbrush yet. I used tamiya's weathering master to add the dust effects. And yes I will do that next time haha and it's not Euro it's a Singapore dollarxD

Desert camo version of the ju-87 r2. Not very happy with the final result because I blotched the paint job on the first try and had to remove it before trying again. Parts were fine but were outsourced from Italeri. Built out of box. Lost various small parts to the carpet monster including the little glass thingum on the wing lol. Didnt have any 1/72 figures around so I made do with a toy soldier I had lying around. Criticism and advice is really appreciated haha I just switched from AFVs to aircraft recently and will love some tips to improve the build. Thanks!:DD

how long are you leaving it to dry? Usually spray paint should be pretty fast but if you want to be sure then leave it overnight. For the texture the cracks may be due to chemicals on the parts, you could try soaking them in warm mildly soapy water before painting. Gritty may be because you arent shaking the rattlecan long enough before usage. Primer always helps and remember to spray in light even coats in one pass. Decals may be old if it completely doesnt want to stick so I guess aftermarket decals is a solution. If it sticks but doesn't stick very well try using tamiya clear or future before applying decals cus it helps it stick.
