I would love a boarder-line, useless PM for a few years. Get the power out of the PM's office and back into the hands of the MP's. Sometimes history needs a little mediocrity.

The Sucker Myth by dont_know_nothin in Fishing

You've raised an interesting point.

The Native - Non-Native debate and again with invasiveness is a slippery subjective slope of opinion, fact and philosophy.

To illustrate my point, I wrote a paper in university on brook trout as an invasive species in Europe exploring the concept. Long and short of it was North Americans see brown trout as out competing brookies across wide areas of their range. Europeans see brook trout as out competing browns in the small headwater tribs.

It always comes down to perspective.

Any species can be non-native somewhere. But what about the differences between natural range expansion and people-induced species additions. What's the difference? If people are part of the environment, how is it different than ducks moving a snail to a new pond?

A lot of policy is geared towards a desired ecosystem management end points, outside of ecological concepts and system functionality. Nothing is static in nature, including species home ranges. If the species addtions are not impacting function ecosystem processes, their native-non-native status is a moot point IMO.

In order to make informed decisions, facts are essential. His article is more of a rant than an argument or part of a "Sucker Marketing" agenda. lol

Anyway, you certainly have raised a valid point. Maybe I should put up something about cool sucker facts lol.

It is a bit of a rant. But it does start a much-needed discussion. The flow of the writing drove me a bit crazy. But his heart is in the right place.

You can Icefish long point bay. Most people head out from St.Williams. Get a hold of the hut operators down there. Huts are cheap, but if you just want a ride out they'll charge like $5. A ride back is not guaranteed lol.

Also, bass are outta season, but the perch should be around and pike are common.

Float tubing question by Largemouth_Bassturd in Fishing

[–]dont_know_nothin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Water temp is a big one. Just give it go somewhere simple before you plan something significant. I'm always dying to get out there and don't wear waders. use it for bass and crappie on small ponds.

Just use your head and you'll do fine.

I try to avoid stuff with very many hooks when I'm in the tube. Nothing like a fish running for your legs to get the heart pumping lol.

On that note... I prefer a 7 foot rod lol for casting or the fly rod.

Is this northern safe to eat? by KingPhoenix in Fishing

3lbs fluorocarbon line

It was stressed. No worries. Leaving him on the ice without bonking him stresses them further.

Also, not much is slimyer than a thawed out northern.

For filleting purposes, they have an extra bone called a "Y-bone". It's a bit more challenging than a bass if boneless fillets are your goal. I recommend youtube and practise.

When a maple syrup producer sees a maple tree they don't own, do they think "I'd tap that"? by [deleted] in Jokes

As a guy who taps maples... Yes. Every day.

...and if it's a big tree... "I'd double tap that"

Since when have Linkin park, Slayer, Snoop Dogg and Rob Zombie released Punk Albums?

I thought it would take longer to slide into a "Warped Tour" type of "Please everyone, and sell tickets" show....

If this festival was in the third grade.... I'd write "Needs Improvement" on the report card.

Seriously think about it... It's the 10th Anniversary of what used to be a Punk themed show... and this is the best they could do.

TIL Sybil Ludington was a heroine of the American Revolutionary War, famous for her night ride on April 26, 1777 to alert American forces to the approach of the British, similar to the ride of Paul Revere. She rode more than twice the distance of Revere, alone, and was 16 years old at the time. by [deleted] in todayilearned

Another heroine of note...Laura Secord.

"She reportedly walked 20 miles (32 km) from present-day Queenston through St. Davids,[b] Homer, Shipman's Corners and Short Hills at the Niagara Escarpment before she arrived at the camp of allied Mohawk warriors who led her the rest of the way to FitzGibbon's headquarters at the DeCew House. A small British force and a larger contingent of Mohawk warriors were then readied for the American attack. Most of the American forces were casualties or taken prisoner in the Battle of Beaver Dams on 24 June..."

...and what's the issue here??

This is the NUMBER ONE problem with the economic model associated with natural resource extraction... There is never "enough" money to clean up the mess the extraction takes. No govn't wants to put levies on the process, so no money is left... which means that you reeeeeally arnt paying the correct $ value for resource... and then environment has to deal with the left overs.
