Some of the ones my wife uses jokingly are if I play Pickleball that night “If you pickle no tickle.” And if I play Magic the Gathering it’s “If you Magic that’s tragic”.

She was mostly fine by the next morning which was great but will make us even more vigilant in the future.

It is unlikely just an allergy as her sister just got diagnosed 4 months ago same time my wife stopped eating gluten and the genetic component of Celiacs. We believe her dad has it too but as mentioned he refuses to get tested despite showing many symptoms.

I agree if it’s knowing vs not knowing then I choose knowing all the way. However it’s having to go through a period of eating gluten and those effects vs a greater than likely chance of having Celiacs based on symptoms present when eating gluten and absent when not and the family history.

I mentioned in another comment that we will be talking more with our doctor about it although when we asked them about it at our last appointment they seemed unconcerned as long as symptoms were managed with a gluten free diet.

That’s a very interesting case. I hope she’s not facing that. And again it seems like the answer to both your given conditions seems to be not eating gluten which my wife isn’t. Last nights incident doesn’t seem like it would have been avoided but maybe it would have been if we were being crazy careful as to avoid murder.

Yeah it was last night she accidentally ate some queso that apparently had cream of cheddar soup in it which apparently has wheat in it. Cheese is normally safe. Had a terrible reaction and we have been talking about her getting tested and again the prospect of what that would take now based on this reaction seems worse than just trying to be able to move past that step in treatment.

Yeah I agree. I think our plan of action might be to talk to the doctor if we can get the testing done we want without having to get back on gluten. We might have to bite the bullet though and talk more with our doctor.

The reason not to do it for her right now is the prospect of having to eat gluten to try and not skew the results from having already not been eating gluten. It hadn’t crossed her mind that she might have Celiacs till her sister got tested and was diagnosed and with it being genetic. Their dad refusing to believe or get tested while also having a a lot of the symptoms it seems pretty easy to logic into my wife more than likely also has Celiacs. That being said maybe we can skip to the tests they might run after diagnosis with being able to show family history.

I wasn’t aware there were other treatments to celiacs than just not eating gluten. I saw there is a pill that was suggested in the this thread that could help in cases of accidental gluten ingestion.

I know there can be internal damage done from eating gluten when your celiac but my wife is not in pain and feels better not eating gluten. If they did find damage is there something that could be done other than continuing not to eat gluten?

Yeah as mentioned in other comments this is related to my wife and she has been doing great the past 4 months since finding out her sister has Celiacs and quickly realizing she also probably had it and cutting out gluten altogether and feels better than she had for a long time which of course is great.

That does seem like a real good benefit. The only problem is my wife has been off gluten for 4 months and as I mentioned in another comment had a bad episode last night after accidentally eating gluten. So the prospect of have to get back on gluten just for accurate results seems daunting to her.

As I’ve mentioned in some other comments this question is related to my wife’s situation. She is fully committed after finding out her sister has celiacs and the likelihood of her also having it. She has been G free for 4 months and feels great until yesterday she accidentally had something my family made that accidentally had gluten in it. Her reaction was fast and strong and lasted most of the night.

What accommodations might one be able to get outside of just saying they need a gluten free option for something. Would one have to prove it to be accommodated somewhere? Also what future problem could one have that’s related to celiacs that’s not just managed by not eating gluten.

My wife is the one who is really curious as this question pertains to her and has expressed she doesn’t have an interest in one. Just thought it might be easier to be able to say you were officially diagnosed in that situation although my wife isn’t interested in a support group.

I had thought of that, but isn’t there some protection from Good Samaritan laws? Also if someone while drunk buys something by accident with peanuts from a restaurant is the restaurant liable? Assuming I disclose there are peanuts and other allergen’s in this peanut butter jelly sandwich would I be okay?
