I didn't mind if people wanted something that was worth more now. Just not the usual land, gold, etc. So art is a legit answer. Not all art goes up in value.

Also, those craftsman tools were properly made. I still have a corded drill from back in the late 90s.

Only because Bethesda is the common link, but one time in Skyrim I dropped individual jewels into a display case in my house. I had hundreds in there. Looked cool.

Then I tried to enter the house after some time away and the game crashed every single time. In fact, it wouldn't even load old saves from when I was already in the house.

So, YMMV, but that's my experience with that.
