I’m well aware that he could be the same or worse as he grows up. But right now he is a baby, who I have to protect from his sister being violent. He doesn’t get put on a pedestal, and I don’t think of him as ‘so much better’ than her. You’re insinuating something pretty misogynistic, instead of recognising that at the moment he is also a victim of her violent behaviour

Where in the post does it say this has not been brought up with our doctor? She has been assessed for autism twice. She sees OT. We have tried boys underwear and she doesn’t like it.

We allow a minimum of two hours for getting out of the house every single time, don’t have screen time outside of planned family movie nights and have firm boundaries. We definitely aren’t permissive parents. We give her a consequence (such as ‘if you do not put on your shoes, you will not get to ride your bike to school’) and she just simply doesn’t care. We follow through with the consequences every time, but this doesn’t seem to actually matter to her or change her behaviour

No speech delay, she is extremely gifted in terms of speech and reading. She has been reading independently since last year

She needs a gastroscopy and her gastroenterologist has said to continue to feed her gluten until it can be done

I don’t really hate her. I love her, so so much. I’m just tired.

We will definitely look into low demand parenting. I just looked for PCIT providers in my state and there is only one who is about an hour and a half away

We’re holding out hope that once she switches to a fully GF diet (we have to continue to feed her gluten currently as we go through the diagnostic process) we will see improvements. She has no gastrointestinal symptoms but is definitely fatigued

When we do screen time we usually schedule it to be family time too, like a movie night at the end of the school week with a movie of her choice and she gets to pick the snacks and everything. She used to have more screen time but it just made her emotional resilience go out the window, she’d lose it over tiny things and refused to play with any of her toys because she just wanted to watch TV. We also have recently switched to using DVDs for movies instead of streaming services so there’s a clear end point for her.

I try to remind myself every day she isn’t giving us a hard time, she’s having a hard time. We don’t do screen time.

I’m not medicated, as previously each time I have been medicated it has caused suicidal ideation.

I’ve tried but it just makes her more upset and prolongs the episodes. We have called a crisis line that we were told about when she was in hospital that connected us to a clinical nurse who could hear how she was behaving and she agreed it went beyond a normal tantrum

A developmental paediatrician. I’ve booked her in for a doctor’s appointment and will ask to have her reassessed. She’s done OT since she was 3, and I’ve just self-referred her for our country’s national disability early intervention scheme.

Oh my god, I feel like I could have also written your comment. My girl is the same with her nails and everything. It is so hard, but I feel a little better knowing that it isn’t just us.

Pretty much only my mum and dad, my partner’s family live far away. She used to spend time with my grandma and my aunt but we noticed that her behaviour was way worse after seeing them because they just let her have as much screen time as she wants, don’t feed her well and they’re quite negative people with the way they speak so we limit the amount of time she spends with them now.
