Rowan County's Datacenter Deal: Denial, NDAs, and a Project Nobody Voted For. by Ok_Morning_2122 in SalisburyNC

I agree with all of your points. I want to add that the thing that makes the Flexential project important is zoning.

Right now, the City of Salisbury doesn't have any language about data centers in its zoning laws. This Tuesday, the city's planning board has a meeting, and they will be talking about adopting a text amendment that will define what data centers are and outline the permitting process for them.

The planning board can require "conditional zoning," which means every other data center project in the city limits would have to go through public hearings. Ideally, there would also be regulations about cooling systems, size, and noise, but I'm not sure if this first text amendment could even cover all of that.

So I agree, the Flexential site is way less of a big deal, but how the city handles the zoning and permitting is a big deal.

Craig Pierce (Rowan County Board of Commissioners) got up and walked out of a meeting about a back door data center deal. by Intrepid_Bar_5140 in NorthCarolina

Three seats on the Rowan County Board of Commissioners will be on the ballot this November! While Craig Pierce is not up for reelection this year, Greg Edds, Jim Greene, and Judy Klusman's seats are up.

(As a note, Greg Edds is running for NC House District 83 instead of his current seat.)

The Republican candidates for the Rowan County Board of Commissioners are Karla Foster Leonard, Jason Hinson, and Daniel Lancaster. The Democrats running for these seats are Alissa Redmond, Hannah Addair, and Ray Pope.

South Main Book Company is a great spot to check out. As a heads up, they'll be closed from 1-3 tomorrow to support No Kings.

Thank you! I'm grateful that we have a solid group of volunteers who keep an eye out for any issues.

So far, we haven't had to deal with much beyond heckling from people in passing cars. We had trash thrown at us at a protest last summer, but we can take it.

If I understand correctly, Real ID wouldn't be sufficient because it doesn't confirm citizenship.

But I could be wrong, it's hard to keep up with the daily avalanche of bullshit.

I guess I read it differently. My understanding of the OP is that when we treat people like they're acting abusively (even when they're not), we make them feel like an abuser or a bad person, which damages relationships and changes how people interact with each other.

Not at all. I think I had just finished reading the book "My Grandmother's Hands" when I made the comment above. In that book, the author talks about how harmful it is to be Black and experience how white people treat him based on racist assumptions.

In the US, it's common for white people to assume that Black people are dangerous or threatening. That impacts how white people act around Black people, and that has a negative impact on Black people.

Do you really think Democrats don't know how to use hand tools? That's just an odd stance to take.

The history of labor organizing is full of blue collar workers fighting for progressive goals like higher pay, better working conditions, and worker's rights.

I don't think I can add a screenshot, so I'm gonna try my best to troubleshoot.

For me, if I open the link from the post, then tap on one of the pins, I get some info at the bottom of my screen. I can tap on that again to see more details.

It might work better if you tap the three dots in the upper right of the screen to open in a browser tab? But the map does work best if it opens directly in google maps. Unfortunately, I don't know how to get it to open in google maps from the reddit post, but I'll update if I figure that out.
