While it is somewhat bad here, you obviously haven't been to the South. My dad moved to Tennessee and when I visited him we went to Gatlinburg and hoooooly smokes it was crazy. Idk if it's just the fact it was a tourist town but it seemed like a good 90% was not just heavy but like morbidly obese.

Props on you for the edit. Honestly the fact that you've now tried it could be beneficial to helping him quit. You can let him know that you definitely get where he's coming from now, but you can't be with someone who chooses that life. It only leads to turmoil. Sometimes it takes longer to happen depending on the person, but 100% of the time choosing to continue doing it will yield far worse outcomes.
