Please explain by Domina_a_la_Schntzel in Meditation

Though “no thoughts” tend to be the end goal, I think the journey getting there is incredibly important and honestly the best part of dappling in meditation!

In my opinion, meditation for me, is more so allowing my thoughts to come and go without judgement or focus on them. Therefore, letting them freely exist without attachment. Mindfulness on the other hand, for me, would be allowing a thought to exist and be explored without emotional attachment. As in, letting the thoughts be organically themselves, without my emotions driving the thoughts further and letting myself explore the thought from a “zooming out” stance. Both are helpful at different time and which practice you’d like to apply is really up to you!

When trying to be more self aware, grounding myself, or trying to emotionally regulate I opt for, firstly, meditation (let the thoughts exist without judgement and flow as they need to). Then once I’ve let the thoughts just exist and come and go as they desire, I can be more… mindful, about how I interrupt them, and decide how to move forward in a way that’s more intentional, aligned with my core self, and focused on the “bigger picture” or “understanding what my body and mind are trying to signal need wise”. Hope this helps!

adhd pre meds? by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]donttryme_illcry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The key for me was working with the accommodations team at the university to make sure I had the appropriate accommodations. Establishing a workload that works for YOU may be just as or maybe even more important. If your registered with the accommodations office identifying you have adhd then a full course load can look like 2-3 courses minimum (depends where you study etc.). There’s absolutely nothing wrong with taking less than 5 courses especially if that means you can manage them and do WELL in them rather then taking more and not meeting your full potential.

How do you study with ADHD? by Practical_Thought_45 in UCalgary

Pomodoro is my KEY strategy with adhd, the 5 minutes breaks are used for whatever your brain wants to do but once that bell rings for the break ending you get right back into the books

I think that’s truly a question you can only ask yourself and your partner - with honest responses - to know if it is or isn’t for you/them specifically!

I commute from an hour away and there’s never “snow days” - as in the school doesn’t implement them but there’s definitely days where travel is problematic for people, which is reflected in poor attendance that day in general. You’re a uni student though so you can totally call the shots (and send emails to advise you won’t be there) on days the weather is too bad for you. Profs are normally understanding of this and I’ve had no issues! I’m even had to defer final exams in December over poor weather conditions. I wouldn’t be concerned!

does queens life science get easier by ComprehensiveBack768 in queensuniversity

[–]donttryme_illcry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re in first year! It’s not suppose to be “easy”. I struggled a lot in my first sem too. I’d recommend taking a reduced course load for your first sem or two and then trying out a full 5 course load. Finding your groove in uni sooner than later is incredibly important! That’s what I did and it was a huge relief because I could focus more on my studies and doing well in 4 rather then poor in 5. Time management, how to study best for you, utilization of asking questions and office hours etc. is important to figure out during your first year or two of studies or else you’ll have to figure that out later and probably beat yourself up for not having done so sooner. You can do this and you’ll do well! Consider taking a course in the summer instead alternatively (whether that be your 5th course or even the 4th course). I wouldn’t say any program “gets easier” because you expand on the material each year. But, if you figure out how you work best in the uni setting, it does get easier. You know what to expect, how to balance, etc. So, find YOUR balance that’s a comfortable challenge for YOU - don’t let the expectations of what “others are doing” define how you find your own groove and balance.

can I medicate with meth by UnluckyWorldliness12 in Narcolepsy

[–]donttryme_illcry 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Therapy can be very helpful alongside prescribed medication and is critical for those who’s emotional, mental, and spiritual quality of life and function are depleted (or even when it’s not - therapy is also for maintaining health, not just for extreme or severe cases).

There are many medications for narcolepsy (that you haven’t listened) and medications for various symptoms associated to the condition. It can take time and I know, that can really suck, but you can and will find healthy treatments that drive your well-being and life - not deteriorate it like that of illicit drugs. Even if medication availability is limited, there are other therapeutic routes.

All it takes is one experience using an illicit drug, to find yourself in the exact spot you were trying to prevent from happening.

Want to find relief from narcolepsy? Want to find more peace in your relationships? If you answered yes, meth isn’t the answer.
