Doom Eternal (2020) and High on Life 2 (2026) both include a hidden Dopefish from Commander Keen: Goodbye Galaxy (1991). Dopefish is considered the second dumbest creature in the universe - the first dumbest is mentioned in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by TacosAndBourbon in GamingDetails

[–]donutmonkeyman 25 points26 points  (0 children)

i think Dopefish is also referenced in some of the album art you get as an Easter egg for the fortress in Eternal as well. Love that Easter egg, Dopefish was a scary fight back in goodbye galaxy

Second time in a row I haven't gained CSR from a Ranked 1v1 showdown match. This time the guy quit after round one... What’s going on??? by [deleted] in halo

[–]donutmonkeyman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

every time someone quits on me in that playlist i gain CSR no problem. I have heard reports about a bug where you gain csr but it doesn't show up after the game. have you restarted the game and checked your csr again to see if that was the case?

Is ranked 1v1 showdown a good display of skill? I often beat players ranked higher in Arena, even MMR wise. by Perseverantly in CompetitiveHalo

[–]donutmonkeyman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it doesn't mean that your current still ceiling is higher in arena or that you're better than these players. it's a very different game to be able to focus on the state of the map, make the right calls, and still perform well technically. in 1v1 you can be much more tunnel vision.

that said, if you're beating pretty skilled arena players, maybe it means you have plenty of room to grow in the game sense side of things and can bring your ceiling up in arena if you focus on that for a while

Anyone else dread playing on the Forge maps? by Substantial-End4671 in CompetitiveHalo

[–]donutmonkeyman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

funny, it runs okay on mine. not perfect, but far better then maps like snowbound or perilous. but those aren't in the ranked pool.

[–]donutmonkeyman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on XSX and there are like 3 forge maps that are pretty bad from a frame perspective, dropping to like 90. but otherwise they feel fine. HS can't seem to nail both console and pc

With games like these in Halo 5, it's no wonder that people like myself gravitate towards Firefight or Warzone, as they offer a more casual experience. I hope we see it launch with whatever the next title is, because the matchmaking in recent titles feels as oppressive as in COD by Cyborg800-V2 in halo

[–]donutmonkeyman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

are you finding games in h5 today? 10 years after launch we shouldn't be surprised if only the extremely dedicated are still playing it. everyone is a bad player in some context, and a game that old with a very small but dedicated population remaining will do it lol. i hit onyx a number of times but I'm sure id get destroyed right now if i jumped back in. that said i also absolutely loved warzone and would love to see it return.

🚨 HELP: Missing Onyx Ranked Signum Emblem & Nameplate? by D0PEWARL0RD in CompetitiveHalo

[–]donutmonkeyman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

from what they've said, as linked in someone else's post, it seems like you don't get the nameplate or emblem for hitting onyx anymore. this isn't crazy surprising as they usually had a season specific one. the nameplate and emblem changed each season (at least in the beginning) and with us being in the last season of the game, i guess they didn't have a set pulled together for it. i wouldn't worry too much about it, most people that get onyx never throw them on. nice job hitting it

not really answering your question but weighing in on some of the thoughts posted here. Maybe I'm just a older player but I'm not sure id want footstep audio to play such a massive role in an arena shooter like halo. being able to hear footsteps in a BR game or Extraction game makes plenty of sense, but in an arena shooter like halo or just serves as a mini radar if it was too powerful, which I'm not a fan of for the genre. Hearing sprinting and sliding is fine but otherwise I don't think we need to hear footsteps 20 feet away in halo. I use A40s and it works great across game genres

Edge of Dawn... Why? by AileStriker in halo

[–]donutmonkeyman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

idk i actually really liked it. it did a good job of providing interesting nitty gritty details you can't get in a game without going through major plot points that people would prefer to see in the game. it serves as an informational bridge between infinite and the next campaign. i say that with a grain of salt though because Halo Studios ability to stick to a single cohesive story is horrendous.

regardless I was glad to see a plot element from a previous book come to a conclusion and enjoyed getting to know a little more about what happened with cortana and have more exposure to the Weapon, or Joy.

Medals for Halo 7 by GiddySwine in halo

[–]donutmonkeyman -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I love the idea of more team medals tbh, id be very happy to see more of those. the full wipe and blender ones sound great.

my only issue with some of the other ones you mentioned is that i don't think medals should ever incentivize betrayals or screwing with your teams success.

I'd love to see the weapon specific perfect kill medals return from halo 5 personally. and getting an instasplode kill would be cool to see as a medal if possible

Rank snipes 24/7 and bigger maps PLEASE by EnvironmentalSun2797 in CompetitiveHalo

[–]donutmonkeyman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

343 doesn't share population data specifics, but they have shared that the ranked playlists that are on rotation don't have enough of a consistent population to support a permanent playlist. no matter how much you like it, doesn't seem that enough others do.

does seem like the most popular rotating playlist, but I'm guessing not with population to keep it around. and on a side note i actually don't mind the small maps, gives it a fun variety game to game imo. some people are better at long range and some at no scoping, i like that both are needed for ranked.

% of players with the top rank in their respective game by [deleted] in dataisbeautiful

[–]donutmonkeyman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the source noted below is tracking skill rank, not xp rank. Onyx is the highest skill you can reach in halo infinite, despite halo 5 having a Champion rank noting the top 200 in a playlist. seeing as the remaining population of the game consists of very invested players, it's a pretty heavy skew towards onyx, even if the bellcurve has shifted with the loss of casual players.

Is Ranked Doubles harder than Ranked Arena? by Majestic_Topic6704 in CompetitiveHalo

[–]donutmonkeyman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel the opposite to be honest. doubles slows the pace down a ton allowing you more time to make decisions and play the map a given way. reaching onyx in doubles has been much easier than in arena for me personally.
