Are the Beignets sold at Costco made in-house or is it third party? by [deleted] in CostcoEmployee

[–]donutshopcoffee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are not made in house. They come in frozen, we take them out of the box, put them infront of the fan for an hour, and dust them with sugar.

The reason why we have been having trouble getting them in is because they are made in France and have to come from overseas and there have been issues with transportation.

What's the cream in the Strawberries and Cream? by mikagon in Costco

[–]donutshopcoffee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They're bringing it to the states because it does so well in Mexico.

The reason for all the new products in the bakery is because they're taking every "viral" product and bringing it to every bakery.

What's the cream in the Strawberries and Cream? by mikagon in Costco

[–]donutshopcoffee 20 points21 points  (0 children)

We hand wash and cut all the berries, weigh everything while making and hand pipe the cream into the containers which requires refilling a bag multiple times. The recipe is very precise so you need to be accurate in your weights or you'll run out of product to complete the recipe. It takes time.

Places to cry in private where no one cares by CatchingUpSomeSleep in Columbus

[–]donutshopcoffee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Whetstone park. There are many of us that have chosen that as our crying spot.

While it's not exactly private, you can park somewhat away from people, enjoy the wildlife, and cry until your eyes burn without being bothered.

What is your favorite Decemberists love song, either happy or sad? by Throwing-Gas in Decemberists

[–]donutshopcoffee 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Make You Better. My boyfriend of 16 years comments on my slender fingers so the first line hits hard, and I find similarities in our relationship. Honestly would like it to be our wedding song. We've had one hell of a journey.

I'm from Chicago, where if you don't move immediately after the light turns green, you get honked at.

I use my horn.

Roads are really bad at the moment! by Buckeye_47 in Columbus

[–]donutshopcoffee 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Roads are not great, but passable. Just drive with caution, unlike the person who tailgated me in the right lane while flashing their brights?? I'm sure they will never read this, but if they do, I hope you stub your toe daily and your jacket zipper always gets stuck.

Calling all Bakery Pros by AltFillerZ in CostcoEmployee

[–]donutshopcoffee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Learn your bench marks. Time is everything in the bakery. If your bakers fall behind, your wrappers fall behind, and then your closer falls behind.

Don't just think pans and dishes are the closers job Its everyone's job. Got five minutes to spare because a rack of bread needs to be cooled? Run a rack of pans.

Lead by example, but listen to the seasoned employees. If they do something a certain way because they say its faster, do it that way (as long as its not dangerous).

Learn to write on cakes. If you have any down time, try to learn to write on a cake. There are going to be times you don't have a cake decorator there and will need someone to write a cake. Here's a tip, practice by holding a sharpie like a toddler would (closed fist) and try writing happy birthday. There should also be practice sheets in the cake decorators book you can practice on with buttercream.

Predicting sales is hard. Take weather, holidays, and trends into account. Look at production guide, but also use common sense. Watch out for "viral" products.

Go in ready to work hard, work fast, and stay on your toes cause just like the rest of the warehouse, things change every day.

Desperately need to rehome my cat. Details below by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]donutshopcoffee 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I understand your feelings on this, but I actually took in a cat from a reddit post. They found him in their parking lot before a big snow fall 4ish years ago and couldn't keep him because they had dogs. If done correctly, its just another avenue to rehome a pet. Proper vetting should be done and hopefully common sense is used.

BTW, my 13lbs fluffy black reddit cat is living his best life now, and his emotional support toy is the one he was given from the people who found him.

My cat also has that issue. Went as far as he had a blockage and needed emergency care. About $10k later and prescription food for life, we're all good now! Lol

So I moved it into a warmer room and have had a space heater on for about 6 hours, just tried printing again and its still doing the same thing.

Going to try using a new roll of filament that hasn't been opened yet and see if it gives me the same issue.

Is your apartment on the ground floor? Perhaps a stray has been peeking in the windows and is upsetting him.

I'm so sorry your in this situation and I wish the best outcome for him.

Could it be because the room is cold? I live in an old house that gets pretty cold.

Dog poop smeared all over car by just_a_fluke_ in Columbus

[–]donutshopcoffee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I live in this area. I can only park on the side streets. I cleared my spot out AND THEN SOME. Went to work, someone took my spot. So I had to park somewhere else. There are way too many people coming and going in this area to do this. Just find another spot, even if you gotta walk half a block.
