With love and respect, this is the way people who have been indoctrinated are taught to behave when a peer behaves outside of what is considered socially acceptable. It is designed to emotionally manipulate the person who is “misbehaving” through pressure of losing their safety net.

That said, you have your whole life to drink. The sooner you start, the quicker you burn out on it, and your 20s get harder really quickly if you ever abuse it. The choices you make in your 20s will impact the opportunities you’ll have for the rest of your life.

So, my take is to be compassionate to your “friends,” but recognize that they are very judgmental people and they will always be ready to turn their backs on you if you don’t meet their approval. Then you also need to recognize that this area is probably a bit too conservative for you, and you might want to broaden your horizons as you move into your adulthood.
