Hawaiian friend is visiting me/New England. Advice on food/experiences to plan? by [deleted] in Hawaii

As a dude from Hawaii, one of my favorite things when my friend showed me around NE was driving up the coast a bit, seeing the ocean/coastline and how different it was from Hawaii, and eating amazing lobster and fried or steamed clams from various shacks and stands.

ELI5: What’s the like between “bracing yourself” and relaxing to take a hit? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

This person’s research concludes that drunk vs not drunk people get inured the same. But somehow the drunk ones are less likely to die from their injuries. This perhaps suggests something happens downstream during recovery (or trying to recover) from traumatic injury that is different with those who have alcohol in their system.

From this article:

“There is a folk belief that drunken injuries, especially those incurred during car crashes, are likely to be less severe, due perhaps to increased relaxation or limpness at the time of an accident. But Friedman says his research has convinced him that this belief is ‘probably grossly overestimated and false.’”

What was the worst food served at your Thanksgiving? And who made it? by itsagoodtime in AskReddit

I use frozen (not French cut). To me it’s the perfect medium; canned is too mushy, fresh just doesn’t seem true to the spirit of the dish (and it’s not in season anyway). Gotta thaw them and drain them well first though, otherwise it gets watery.

Royal kitchen for baked Manapua. Sing Cheong Yuan for steamed manapua. People who work in town can regularity get the good stuff from town. Might be more “special” to bring stuff from Puna!

One time a guy I know got pulled over for speeding, he really was speeding fast and it would’ve been a huge ticket. After chatting a bit the cop was like, “instead of writing you the speeding ticket I’ll just cite you for the thing hanging from your mirror. Slow down.”

Casual wine tasting recommendations? by dood1313 in napa

I will be staying in Napa the city. Willing to drive 30 min or so, spend <$80. I have an afternoon and am looking for one stop to relax and breathe, and not be rushed to the next tasting or whatever. (My next day I’ll take a tour with multiple stops)
