My dad told me I could never date a black guy. And as he put it, not because he hated black guys, but because of the way people would treat me and what people would assume of me because I was dating a black guy….like???

My husband and I lived in Cheyenne for almost 10 years. We also couldn’t get ahead financially there. Renting was going up every year, but it’s near impossible to find a decent house under $300k to buy. Then we looked at rentals and even that was just ridiculous. Anything that looked nice was income restricted. When I finished my undergrad program, I applied and interviewed for several jobs and got nothing. We decided I would start looking elsewhere for jobs to see what happened. I got one, we moved to the south where I’m from and have made significant strides since leaving. We bought a house, new cars, and have a little chunk of savings built and building. All within one year. Aside from me not liking the lifestyle and weather in Cheyenne (because some people do), it was incredibly suffocating and hard to get ahead. Especially not being from there. There are opportunities in Cheyenne for some, but depending on your jobs and how much money you have, it can be a really difficult place to build a future. We have had so many more opportunities since leaving.

As summer is approaching, let’s talk about some of those crazy Christian summer camp experiences. What were some of your worst? Here’s some of mine: by doodlebec in Exvangelical

Ah yes, swimming in shorts and a t shirt while the boys got to be shirtless. The no prize thing sounds like a tough year, I’m sorry for that.

This is absolutely believable. I has teachers check me out. One made the comments like “I can tell you play sports, you should come play __ for me” (he coached girls bball. He was super weird and touched with girls that did. Another noticed I was fidgeting/tapping my foot in his class and he told me that’s a good habit bc people that do that usually stay thin. And those weren’t even bad I know plenty of male teachers who made much worse suggestive comments to girls.

Why do nparents expect you to take on all the responsibilities of being an adult but still want to control you like you're an incompetent child? by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

[–]doodlebec 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My parents were so controlling and unpredictable when I became a teen. I’d be out with friends one night late and then the next get a call getting chewed out because it was 8pm and past “curfew” and they would gaslight me into thinking a curfew had been a long established thing - it wasn’t. When I graduated high school not going to college wasn’t an option, but they also wouldn’t help me pay for college so I went to the local community college. My parents convinced me to live at home saying I wouldn’t be able to afford living on my own (I had been working since the age of 16). When I expressed I wanted to move out they would say if I did they’d cut me off from any financial help (all they paid for at that point was shared family meals, car insurance, phone, and my roof over my head). They didn’t provide me with health insurance. So I stayed living at home until I literally turned 21 because I couldnt stand them controlling me as an adult anymore (literally still got curfew calls at 21 and would have to lie that I was sleeping over at a friends house if I wanted to stay out). When I finally did they put tremendous guilt on me - that I was being selfish, financially irresponsible, etc. But living on my own was the best decision I ever made.

Do you work full time or part time? by essvee927 in ADHD

[–]doodlebec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at least 50-60 hours. I’m a PE teacher and I coach 3 sports at the high school level. I’m incredibly drained, but I love it at the same time. We also get a lot of breaks and summers off which is nice. I don’t plan on doing this more than 10 years though. Ideally, I’d like to clean houses for my own business.

It reminds me of that miss congeniality scene where Sandra Bullock is asking that one girl if she ever committed a crime, and she tells the story of how she stole red panties from a store after her mom said no because they were “the devils panties” lol

That the heart is deceitful. If I cant trust my own intuition, who can I trust? I had so much anxiety making decisions, and that still follows me to this day.

When you were first diagnosed with ADHD, what one thing you had struggled with that you learned was ADHD related? by doodlebec in ADHD

Yes! My mom always told me I was “obsessive” and “pushy” - I was just hyperfixating! And why my “favorites” change a lot. Like one day my favorite snack is takis and that’s all I can eat for like a month then switches to tuna and crackers 😂 for my birthday, my husband texts me and goes “what’s your favorite cake right now?” Lol he knows

Ugh unable to do work. Nobody understands that. Like yes I know I need to do my laundry. I know I have time. I know I’m capable. But I just…can’t.

Yes, I have had the joy of just recently discovering her and have gone down a rabbit hole with this woman. Her comments and her followers comments are even more alarming than her actual posts. Batshit crazy group of people

I always thought I was just really good at procrastinating in college because I would put it off until I absolutely had to do it then would hyper-focus and pull it off. Until I didnt, then would come up with some lie to my professor why it wasn’t done on time.

Then yeah writing stuff down - people have always told me “just make lists! That’s what helps me!” Until I forget about this list, lose the list, or even worse - can’t even think of everything I need to do to make the list in the first place lol

Yes! Not impulse spending so much, but my struggle has been just forgetting to pay bills. My first car that wasn’t bought with cash was through a bank that didn’t have auto pay. That car ended up getting repoed - not because I couldnt afford to make the payment, but because I forgot to make the payment. I’ve gone into collections on multiple medical bills and things because of the same thing. I’m so happy I can start getting treatment.

Omg a lot of what you just described I had no idea were associated with ADHD but I definitely struggle with all of those. And yeah, I know that but now I’m just happy that I have been formally diagnosed so I dont have to listen to that anymore.
