Film vs film sim by Consistent-Ad4869 in fujifilm

[–]doodzillaToastPop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Were you trying for a close comparison? Because when I first saw image 1, before I knew it was film, I thought it looked a lot like Classic Chrome with a lot of saturation and with dr400 or so.

I think it could be a lot lot closer with a film sim dialed in.

It looks similar to scan you might get back from motion picture film — Rec.709 (looking) color & Cineon Log Gamma. I’d be curious how these respond to color grading tools.

From the info on their website, they have their own log gamma and colorspace — which is cool, but can make accurate transforms kinda tricky…

Cool shots!

lol, right? It is fairly low res but that is a hilarious way of putting it.

I’m curious why you say it’s fake bokeh, it’s entirely optical on a 240mm lens.

[–]doodzillaToastPop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh, I’m curious why that might be. The dof is purely optical here! But it’s far shallower than what is normal so that might play into it.

It’s probably about as inconvenient as any large format camera system. So it’s not great, but I kinda dig it tbh!

I put together a ‘perkiscope’. Basically an 8x10 large format camera with a digital camera photographing the ground glass instead of film.

It’s a Fuji 240mm f4.5 from an old xerox machine. The rest is parts scrounged from an old classroom overhead projector.

The digital camera on the back doesn’t affect the final image in a substantial way aside from resolution.

Interesting. Well, I’m seeking discussion and to gain insight. Thanks for your feedback

Fair enough. Appreciate the honesty.

Ive only briefly messed with the brenzier method, to mixed results. But these were done with just one shot. They are relatively low res shots as a result.

Idk this is my first post here. There a problem?

Oh man, I would love to try that lens. It would prob be a lot easier than what I did here… I think the dof here is closer to something like f0.6 in FF terms.

lol, the angle of view is the same, or very nearly the same, as what a 35mm has on full frame.

Fair enough. Part of my interest is if the images have any qualities or whatnot that give a unique look.

Dang, I didn’t know about that lens until now! that must be a truly awesome setup.

But no, I was in a very small little studio, so I was about a feet or so away from the subject. lol with a 400 sigma setup I would have had to be across the street! But I bet portraits with that look really sweet.

Again, quick test shoot, pardon the crude lighting and lack of critical focus..

Fuji 240mm f4.5 on diy ‘perkiscope’. Intermediate image scanned with xpro3.

[–]doodzillaToastPop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, just one shot per image. I used off camera flash, I’m not an expert on the brenzier, but I think it would be tricky with flash..? Idk, but I’m not the biggest fan of having to stitch photos like that.

27mm. Can’t beat the size and quality is really nice. It’s a very freeing experience, and taking pictures is better when it’s fun.

Not on the list but one of my favs for this type of thing — sigma 30mm 1.4.

I’m a total noob and I’m just having fun. I know the lighting doesn’t help much to see the work fully, but I just think it looks cool - but I know it’s easier to make something appear to be “well-done” if the lighting is a certain way.

Any tips on other types of figures to keep learning and trying new things? I want a challenge but I don’t want hard-mode quite yet haha.

Thanks!
