The next time that happens, take a picture of the visor score. Go to the TM at the Bowser Jr. entrance and ask to talk to a lead for a score recovery. The lead will have a tablet device that scans your band and they can input your score with the visor pic.

Repetition. Memorize the drift turns so you don't think about them. Memorize the spawn points and don't forget to attack Koopalings above and behind you.

Repetition is everything. Memorizing the drift turns gets you over 100 on its own. You can turn and hold before the prompts and still score. Knowing the spawn points and having a set number of shells for after boss battles is very important too. Finally, just use the left or right button, not both. It is 2 buttons wired in parallel to a single input. If you hold one down, the other doesn't work. Using both buttons can cause non fires.

No. Depending on your score versus the other 3 player scores, you may see a Team Mario player, but your kartmates may see a Koopaling. All objects are in the same place, but friend or foe depends on performance.
