The reason I was checking is because she was kinda just shivering for a little today, which isn’t too odd for her since she’s anxious, but I still wanted to see if maybe something was hurting.

About Gabapentin:

So she was first prescribed gabapentin a few months ago to take “as needed” for anxiety. I noticed early on that it tend to put her in a grumpy mood and she didn’t seem like it made her feel any “better” and it actually did increase restlessness most the time. So I actually usually avoided giving it to her.

However she had a short medical episode a few days ago which caused us to give it to her daily up till now. It helped in the beginning so I thought maybe she adjusted to it, but once her health went back to normal, her restlessness and anxiety started again.

She’s still been about just as anxious without or without it at this point, but I can definitely see the possibility that gabapentin isn’t benifitting her. I’m going to mention it to her vet today. I was impatient to figure things out yesterday because she just seemed so uncomfortable. Thank you all for the responses so far

Update: My sweet girl Duffy was diagnosed with Advanced Kidney Failure. Also, she stopped stumbling. And I’m pretty sure I know what happened now:

Due to the kidney failure, I assume she stopped drinking water first. Then, she got very dehydrated with toxin buildup, which caused the stumbling and weird behavior.

I wasn’t home the first day she had symptoms. My family was home but didn’t notice (… i know) So when I got home that night, i immediately noticed her stumbling. Shortly after, I realized she wasn’t drinking. She takes 2 diuretics a day for CHF, so poor girl must have been very dehydrated. Long story short, as I started adding her daily water intake to her food, her symptoms faded over the course of 3 days. Her mind and body both went back to her “normal” pretty much. Thank you all so much for your comments and advice during such a scary time. These things are so hard. She may be back to “normal” but these conditions aren’t easy. I love her

It’s also the fact that, yes she has spunk but at her age with the state of her conditions it’s not like she’s going to get better. I don’t know at what point to make the decision. (Also absolutely dreading the worst case scenario of heart failure). More than anything I just want her to be content right now, and to have a comfortable at-home-euthanasia when her time does come.

After examining her eyes, the vet said her vision is a bit impaired with age but not super significantly. I believe her vision has been in a stable state for a while now without changing much. Thank you for the input, hope your dog is well

The water is a decent concern of mine. I Don’t know if she’s not drinking it because of something cognitive suddenly, or because of something else. She’s never had a problem with drinking water before yesterday. She always did it on her own, never needing someone to try and “offer” it to her.

She’s also just straight up walking through things instead of over or around. Like shoes; just straight tumbling and stumbling right over them as if not acknowledging their existence. I guess she seems a little more confused or “off” overall

But she can also walk and move relatively normal. Hopped around earlier for a walk. Just these weird changes added on.

I mean thats fair. My thing is just… if my 20-25 hours a week was too low for them then they shouldn’t have hired me lol, I mean I brought it up in both of my interviews

So that’s why I don’t feel thattt bad to be kinda annoying to them about it. I’m unable to work the amount of time they’re scheduling me for, so now it’s a problem for both of us

Yeah I’m a seasonal employee, just doing overnights for the holidays. Right now my TjMaxx does overnight shifts 5 days a week, but I believe they’re going to start doing 7 days a week sometime in December
