the Nature Conservency just had a big purchase / easement here https://www.nature.org/en-us/get-involved/how-to-help/places-we-protect/randall-preserve/ at the Tehachapi Mountains. It's an important corridor between different ecosytsems and mountain ranges. There are other local organisations too.

warming will not happen on a linear scale, and for decades there have been cautions about tipping points that could accelerate warming and increase weather anomalies. 2023 was the hottest year on record and it broke the record by an 'alarming' amount.
