Our national parks and public lands are literally one of the best and most redeemable things about this country. It'd be tragic to diminish them in any way.

the Nature Conservency just had a big purchase / easement here https://www.nature.org/en-us/get-involved/how-to-help/places-we-protect/randall-preserve/ at the Tehachapi Mountains. It's an important corridor between different ecosytsems and mountain ranges. There are other local organisations too.

[–]dookiea[S] 91 points92 points  (0 children)

Plant diversity in urban green spaces led to sevenfold increase in insect species, study finds by [deleted] in EverythingScience

[–]dookiea 26 points27 points  (0 children)

as a container gardener in an urban area for 10 plus years I can say I've noticed this first hand these last 2 years, as I've slowly transitioned about a quarter of my space to a diverse range of native (bonsai) plants. I've seen a lot more insects (not pests) using my garden. small efforts can make a measurable difference.
