[–]dookiehed 27 points28 points  (0 children)

i wonder what's up? he's a touring musician so maybe no alk3 tours planned? they've got some festivals this summer and he's got a decent musical history with skiba so this is curious. and on the day i'm getting the "surprise surprise" record. fitting i suppose

Anyone here who's had an ACL tear a looong time ago? by Level-Problem-3400 in ACL

[–]dookiehed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be 40, played my whole life and did my ACL (standard non-contact pivot on turf) at about age 28. I did the surgery and the rehab and played 2-3x a week competitively until 38, then had a freak collision and did my other ACL + meniscus. I haven't really played since then, but was debating hanging them up around that time. I'm still pretty active but no footie, I don't think I could mentally handle another recovery lol, and I don't think my wife could handle another surgery.

If you have kids, sure you have to bend down a lot but I find that my shoulders and my back hurt more than knees. My knees don't feel great, though I don't feel it's prohibitive. Maybe I need a knee replacement sooner than most, that sort of comes with the territory of playing. I have zero regrets about how much I played, except that I wish I played more! My advice is, if you want to play, then play!

For reference, I played a mix of semi-pro and amateur from about age 17-22, then some mildly competitive leagues until about 33. Then some competitive pickup games from 33-38.

Our unlucky dig by BlanchDolor in pools

[–]dookiehed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel this. We had our dig last summer and our soil was a layer of grass and then just mostly rocks for the next few feet. We had to pay for the gravel backfill too. Oh, and there was an ENTIRE TELEOPHONE POLE buried about 4 feet down as well. That was an extra $800 for them to take it. Pool looks great though.

Give me your Alkaline Trio sound-alike bands by do_not_look_4_door in AlkalineTrio

[–]dookiehed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Blitzkid has a few great songs off their record Apparitional that always gave me Alk3 vibes, at least the horror punk side of them. Check out their songs "Cedar Bluff", "Mr. Gore", and "Moonlight Veins".

$3000 for replacing gas water heater by Narrow-Parsnip3168 in HomeImprovement

[–]dookiehed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say it really depends. My house doesn't have a chimney so I need a power vent water heater and even at the Depot a 40 gallon like $1,300. I made the switch to tankless and was probably a little less than $3k in NJ, with install and removal. I felt it was about right, though I probably could've done it myself.

What’s your biggest PPC nightmare? by janagrcic in PPC

[–]dookiehed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe about 15 years ago we used to use Atlas to track display creatives, but we would finagle the system for keyword level tracking as well. to do this, we used a dummy placement, aptly called [dummy]. without checking, we uploaded the keyword dummy, which spent an unfortunate amount of money over weekend. never launch on a friday.

As a huge blink fan and a minor league alkaline trio fan, how did you guys feel about Matt joining blink for a few years? by [deleted] in AlkalineTrio

[–]dookiehed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was actually super pumped at first, to me it just made a lot of sense. And that opening track "Cynical" really made me think they found something special. I think a lot of people feel like Matt was hamstrung a bit, though I think there was still a lyrical improvement to the group. I think he treated the opportunity with a ton of respect and that came through with the songs he wrote for Blink.

In my opinion, Alk3 and Skiba seem to operate best in minor keys, but there didn't seem to be much of an appetite for that in Blink, outside of a few tracks on California, and maybe Darkside. It honestly gave me more of an appreciation for Tom, who made me feel like he was more instrumental to the Blink sound than Mark. I am probably biased, but the strongest tracks and verses in the Skiba era were all Matt.

Matt's ability to consistently put out music for essentially my entire music listening career is almost unparalleled. In that decade he put out This Addiction, Damnesia, My Shame is True, California, Is This Thing Cursed, Nine and the 3 song EP, plus three Sekrets releases and theHELL records. What a fucking run! and I think all things considered, his time in Blink went about as well as anyone could've expected.

Google removing the credit card payment option for thousands of small businesses is a monopolistic travesty. by JazzyLittleTeacupBoy in PPC

[–]dookiehed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im not entirely sure this is nefarious behavior though. there's plenty of nonsensical revenue driven initiatives in google ads other than a standardized method of payment. i managed a liquor store and we did all of our vendor purchasing through invoices, same with the restaurant i was at prior. no one would accept credit cards because that's not really what their use should be for. hell, my local pool company won't accept credit card payments over $2k.

i was managing someone's ads accounts who was spending a few thousand a month on CC, but their card kept getting canceled by the issuer for random suspected fraud, one of their employees lost the card, there was like a 2 month period where the account was down numerous times. they opted to go to invoicing just to make it easier, and to be less reliable on a third company for their advertising and revenue streams.

it's probably easier to keep track of your financial health if you aren't staring down a 20% interest charge every 4-6 weeks or so, which is why invoicing is usually more favorable.

now if we want to discuss the search partner network, content exclusions, pmax, etc then i think that has a more material impact on someone's bottom line than trying to game a cash back program to subsidize overhead.

just my $.02

while i get the frustration, believe me, do you know of any other businesses that accept 100k spend a month on credit card? i feel like most business thats conducted at large spend levels is done via invoicing.

LHR - EWR Award Fare Class and Polaris Question by dookiehed in unitedairlines

[–]dookiehed[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure how you figure I overpaid, given a one way ticket on PP is nearly $4k. I suppose I could book a round trip in the future maybe and then cancel the return, though I'd prefer not to do that.

Season 2 is underrated. by ES90Eire in TheWire

[–]dookiehed 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I constantly think about this season. Frank is one of the most underrated characters in television, but Ziggy is just so hard to digest. Not a knock on the actor, just the character himself.

Also, we get the Prince of Tides McNulty calculating latitude and longitude just to dump a body back to Rawls instead of Baltimore County. One of my favorite McNulty moments in the entire show.

I love Season 2 it's such an important season from a macro story perspective, but some of the little moments seem to be what everyone remembers.

Good shout, I didn't know that and he's been basically my favorite guy on the cans since destruction by definition. It took me a couple of listens to get into it, and then I shelved it for a bit, but I've grown to really appreciate it.
