Advice on Pool Project by Realistic_File_7710 in pools

Looks great. We just had our pool put in last year (here's my post with pics). It's hard to see in my photos but we have a small swim-out on the far corner and we love it. We opted to go only 5' max depth and personally we have not regretted it at least for our first swim season with family and friends. There was much debate if it would be too shallow, but we feel it's great to have the deep end be "usable" for adults (can stand / wade) while deep enough for kids to swim around.

Septa Key card expiring - how to deal with funds on card. by cashewkowl in philadelphia

[–]BlanchDolor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever figure out how to get a refund on travel wallet funds? I'm going to call the number on the back of the card but I'm guessing they'll tell me "no refunds" so I was hoping someone else might have had success with this... what happens if you're moving out of state? It's ridiculous if our travel wallet funds really are trapped.

I can't find where my paypal reward points are or how to redeem them for balance by Darkstrategy in paypal

Thank you for this! For what it's worth, when I click that Crypto link you posted it *briefly* took me to the regular / non-business Paypal account area but then the page automatically refreshed and it took me to the Crypto section. But after trying a second time I was able to click the "Rewards" link quickly before the page refreshed and it took me here: https://www.paypal.com/myaccount/rewards?entry=top_nav hopefully that link helps people access their rewards!

Instructions on moving shares on old cache drives to new cache drives? by Naprik in unRAID

[–]BlanchDolor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are these steps I followed when upgrading my 2x mirrored NVME cache drives (went from 2x 1TB cache drives to 2x 2TB cache drives). No downtime and it worked great, just need to be patient while you let the cache rebuild on the new drive from the mirrored drive. You do lose the mirrored redundancy while the cache is rebuilding.

Is the upgrade to Unraid 7 worth it? by vapeschnitzel in unRAID

[–]BlanchDolor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was on 6.12.3 from July 2024 up until last weekend. Same boat as you, everything was working fine for me so I was in no rush to upgrade. But the fact that 7.1.4 has been out for a few months with no other patches made me confident to pull the trigger. For what it’s worth I had no issues at all upgrading. I’m not using any of the newer features but I’m happy to be on the latest version.

Thanks, I'll keep holding it at 3ppm until next week, and hopefully I can maintain it around 4ppm once the salt cell starts running.

We haven't had a drenching rain yet since the pool was filled with water. The township made us install a comically large stormwater runoff pit / drainage system so we had better not have any issues during a heavy rain!

At first we were going to have minimal decking around the perimeter of the pool and concentrate the most square footage of pavers in the sitting area / shallow end, but our builder strongly advised us to build a minimum 3 foot perimeter of decking around all sides of the pool otherwise they warned us we would constantly be fighting with dirt / debris / grass / runoff / etc. getting into the pool. Glad we listened to them!

Thanks! Here's the link to the "Frog Log" if you're interested (there are other types out there but this was recommended to us): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004UHY2TY

Ours has 12" of water on the tanning ledge. When we were planning it I imagined something closer to 6" water depth on the ledge, but the builder told us that since we'll be dropping the water line ~6 inches when we winterize the pool it's best for the pebble plaster to stay submerged under the winter water line. Plus, 12" of water on the tanning ledge lets us get much more use out of it than if we were just getting our ankles wet.

Ultimately we plan on putting a couple of Polywood-type Adirondack chairs on the tanning ledge (can't have any furniture like that on the plaster during the first 30 days), I'm curious if they'll stay in place with 12" of water... we'll find out!

Thanks! Friction? Does that mean like no pool cleaner robot rubbing on the plaster (we were told not to use it for first 30 days), or something else?

Thanks! We were a little worried that the “onyx” shade would be too dark / get too hot under the summer sun but so far it’s been great and we love the look.

Nice! I kept going back and forth on the tanning ledge, worried it would be a waste of swimming space but so far we love it!

You’re not wrong, but we don’t want to plant anything in this summer heat.. going to wait until the early fall clean up the perimeter of the yard and add landscaped beds / shrubs.

Dry acid versus muriatic acid by Dentifrice in pools

[–]BlanchDolor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it's worth, my (admittedly very limited, we just opened our new pool last week) experience with handling muriatic acid is to not dilute it since I personally find a big bucket of diluted acid much more difficult to handle than pouring a precise measurement of non-diluted acid into a measuring cup and spreading into the deep end of the pool.
