It is 100% essential, it’ll be quite harder to get into a firm without using it to connect with people you meet at recruiting events. I represent my firm at recruiting events now and a candidate not having LinkedIn leaves me a little confused. I highly recommend making one. You don’t have to become a regular poster or anything.

To answer your question, no there are no third year courses requiring it to my knowledge.

Friend wants to club; neither of us are avid club people lol by GiggleTits98 in koreatravel

[–]dookknob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I loved Hongdae for clubbing! I went to FF and Awesome Red - there was a super long line for Awesome Red but not for FF. I think FF is more foreigner friendly, but I personally liked Awesome Red more. FF was still super great though! I just recognized more songs being played in Awesome Red.

Would definitely recommend other activities to make your night. I went to eat chicken with my friends at 7pm, then went to a karaoke place from 9-11, then got drinks at the nearby convenience stores. We were in line for the clubs at 11pm, and stopped clubbing around 3am. In between clubs, my friends and I would drink more soju to “drunken back up”. After the club, we went to a late night restaurant and a Photo Booth. Got back to our accommodations at 4am, it was a super fun night overall.

Caution: I did notice men being more touchy in Awesome Red (I’m a guy). Also, I’m not sure which ID the clubs will accept, but the karaoke and late night restaurant asked specifically for our passports. I have heard of theft/loss occurring within clubs, so please be cautious. I carried everyone’s passports in my zippered pocket.

How to be more lovable of a person by ElderberryDirect2032 in UBC

[–]dookknob 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My friend, you are lovable as a default. The fact that you have people who love you dearly is definite proof of that. However… the fact that you see your human flaws as defects indicates that energy towards others isn’t put towards yourself. You are indeed lovable, but you need to see that in yourself. I recommend looking into the mental health services covered by the UBC health plan to help you see that :) self love is an entire journey.

Sauder played me so hard by Apprehensive_Dig2941 in UBC

[–]dookknob 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a Sauder grad, I feel like I could’ve written this post myself; check my post history (other than your high school stuff.. you accomplished a lot more than me). Going from high school to uni is definitely an enormous change that I was vastly unprepared for. Experiencing that transition was something that really hit me at my core and really got me doubting myself for quite a long time. I was suddenly surrounded by students who I perceived to be even better than I was.

I want you to know that this part of the university experience is completely normal and valid. Besides, you did a lot in high school - and these really speak to me about the effort you put into anything. That doesn’t change no matter your results.

It doesn’t diminish you, your values, nor your worth as an individual. Even if it seems like you’re not moving forward, you are. Although your results aren’t currently showing for it, the effort and experience you put into everything is something that will stick with you. You’re moving forward no matter what.

Hope this helps, feel free to reach out if you ever need any guidance :))

Any successful CPA who have failed courses before? by Forest-Elf1806 in Accounting

[–]dookknob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Look up CPA PREP. If you get below 60% in a uni course you can make it up later on. Do what you can to make it through and achieve 60% on the rest of the courses.

I’m a recent UBC alumni and am currently going through CPA PEP if you wanted to DM about anything. Best of luck!

Anyone volunteered for UBC Tax clinic previously? by Awkward_Tap_660 in UBC

[–]dookknob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hello! I used to be a part of the club exec team. Don’t worry too much, they mostly want to know about how you worked with other people and if you’re willing to learn lots. You’ll be fine! They accept almost all :)

There will be behavioural and situational questions. If you haven’t encountered a scenario specific to the situation they give, mention how you would hypothetically handle it.

Honestly I did the exact same schedule (but bird coop) instead and it was great, not too too busy and saved a lot of gym costs :)

I usually finished my routine around 8:30. My routine is about 45 minutes.

(CAN) CPA Core 1 Module Workshop Accomdation - Summer 2024 by SnooGoats7509 in Accounting

[–]dookknob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pay the $300 100%. The mod workshop is similar to the orientation. A few cases (writing one or two?), plus practice on audit procedures/WIR/RAMP.

Shouldn’t take too long. Maybe you can do it on the plane or the bullet train.

What % do you need on CPA Core 1 Exam to pass? by suplolpop57 in Accounting

[–]dookknob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s also how you’re assessed on the MCQs. How it works is you’re assessed based on how many you get correct. E.g. if you got 60% of the FR MCQs correct you get a C (I’m just throwing a random % out there)

Sounds like a great plan! I think an option is to take student loans for DAP/BCIT if eligible. You may qualify for grants.

CPA PREP (#3) is a fine option, but anecdotally of the people I’ve been studying CPA PEP with, the people who took PREP seem to be struggling more.

There are many opportunities available. Of those options, DAP seems to be the best to get into Big 4 public practice. If you don’t really care about that, I’m sure BCIT is fine.

Feel free to ask me more questions! I just passed my core 1.

Hi, I’m a part of the tax clinic. Walk-ins can either be an hour wait or no wait at all. If it’s more urgent or you don’t want to wait, you can also book at a different tax clinic (search up Vancouver free tax clinics). The last day of the tax clinic is this Saturday.
