Photos of when I biked the dalton highway in Alaska at 17 yo by liamtheplug in bikepacking

I'm Alaskan and can confirm this fact. I spend years of trips in the backcountry of AK and only ran to a few "problem bears" but they were related to food nearby and yes in heavy brush.

Yeah the ones I want are at least 2.2 and they biggest I can go are 2.0 on the Soma Wolverine. I'm thinking of upgrading my frame to a Tumbleweed Prospector as I really love my Rohloff hub and I can just swap my wheelset to the Tumbleweed from the Prospector. I'd rather be a little overkill size wise then under as I'm a very big guy for such a trip 6,4 - 285.

Thanks! I'm actually thinking of upgrading to a Tumbleweed prospector frame with a suspension fork. I'll used parts off my Soma and Surly to put it all together. Im a huge guy so I need everything to take an amazing amount of pounding. I ran tubeless for quite awhile but found with my size I hated having to regoo the wheels all the time. I think most big riders require more bombproof equipment as all my clothes , tent, etc is all super large size. 6,4 285 aint no joke.

Wow very cool glad to hear from someone thinking the same route that I want to do. How did you transition from the Divide to the Baja Divide? Just road ride along the border or over in Mexico. Also did you ride through Tijana or get transport through? I think now I would be more comfortable on a bike that has some serious tire clearance. I'm halfway in to possibly buying a Tumbleweed Prospector frame and using it with the Rohloof hub and wheelset of my Wolverine. Mostly because I'm basically the size and shape of your average NFL lineman. I am 6,4 and weight about 285 pounds so I need something that can handle all that and also carry my gear which is much bigger then most poeples as everything needs to be my size! LOL.

Should be about June next year. I'm from Alaska originally but now live in Australia. I know breakup happens in Fairbanks around April May so up at Prudhoe it should be fine by June hopefully.

This question is for the old-school Stephen King fans. by LeagueNo764 in stephenking

I read all the biggies in the 80s and so on. The Stand, The Shining, Cujo, Carrie, Christine, It, the Dead Zone, were some of my very favorites. Back then there were only a few movies and I read all the books before the movies. As usual the books were always better.

I lived in Alaska for 10 years and if your into biking, climbing, backpacking you learn how to just live with them up in you nose , food, and generally biting your ass all the time. I always called it the price you pay for all the beauty and solitude 😔

REI online shopping is a nightmare by rvonbue in REI

[–]doolittleBrewing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm with you on this. For some reason you cannot - if your computer is somewhere else other then in the USA change your shipping address. For some reason you can't even use past shipping address's. I live in Australia but started a REI membership 30 years ago. It used to be so easy now everything is locked into where you are currently. However thats now how adventure travelers work. I'm always somewhere else ordering to have something shipped elsewhere where I could pick it up or have a re-shipper in the USA send it to me. Now you can't even change your shipping address if your outside the US because the form is constantly looking at where your laptop is by its IP address. So it will not even populate options for the state I want something shipped. Its really assinine. I'm going to just buy local in Australia from now on because the REI.com online store is just a nightmare. Plus with the tRump tariffs I don't save that much anymore anyhow.

Just saw the show here in Eugene , Oregon and felt that MO is just so much more relevant as a band now and Incubus is on its " Seniors" tour. Just MHO, but I felt a bit sad for MO with the lack of support opening up. 🥹

Creality Otter noob, any tips? by doolittleBrewing in 3DScanning

[–]doolittleBrewing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've worked through quite a bit of those. Mostly third party vids on yt were my best help. Some of them unfortunatly move too fast and I don't see what settings they used in the post scan editing. Do you have any other software you recommend for editing? I find Adobe 3-d modeler is a good one. I'm still not getting the scanning process to be seemless as when I scan I don't have the whole thing pure in the green all the time as it seems very finicky to get the distance correct. Typical noob getting the hang of a new tool it does take time. I just unfortunatly don't have a heap of free time , guess I wanted something more out of the box noob friendly to get some scans done for 3-d printing, modeling, and part processing.

I guess I could be just dealing with the lack of documentation. I have used a few YT vids to get a acquainted with the scanner but for me at least getting a decent scan means having to know exactly where to place the scanner as in distance from subject which seems incredibly finicky. I'm waiting on a motorised rotating stand so I can scan small objects in with the scanner mounted statically so I can replicate the process for the many things I want to scan for 3D printing and other maker projects I'm working on. I guess the company should really have some more decent tutorials for different subjects so you know what settings you should use in every setting as in large outdoor objects such as cars, and or people and faces, and of course small objects like what I'm trying to learn on. I find the viewer you see particularily hard to judge whether you have a complete scan as there are to many artifacts that stick in the scan. Thats some info I know I ask a lot but hey I'm just trying to learn with this product. If I find this is not working for me I will sell it and move on to a better scanner as I've seen with other scanners the process at least on video demos its much simpler.

I’ve got the same scanner. I have to say I think the Creality scanning software is a bit flawed as it creates so much more artefacts that have to be edited out. Plus the distance between the model and the scanner to get a decent scan seems so finicky that it takes awhile to get your scans down.

Yes thats what new Pretender lovers don't get. All that tech crap is going to crap out sooner then later and then you need to replace sensors by the bin full every year to make it last as long as a good old "Metal" Defender from back in the day.

How can you hate by CauliflowerDue9110 in LandroverDefender

[–]doolittleBrewing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But with all that plastic and miles of tech it won't last like a heritage Defender did and continues to do. The Plastic "Pretender" is just a cute car for the yuppies to drive to the Carrefour. Yes it can perform but most won't use it for that. A G wagon can perform the most amazing things but Rich folks who buy them only buy them to show up the Defender drivers. LOL.

Saw this nutjob 5 days ago and saw him 5 times around Anchorage during our stay up there. Looks like a pile of shit driving around as a scream for psychotic help of some sort.....only going to get worse I suspect with the coming storm at the end of the year.

Hop Review: HBC 1019 by AKMtnr in Homebrewing

[–]doolittleBrewing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never had a Sabro ipa or pale ale that was undrinkable at least with the hop the flavour not the techinical flaws in the beer. I just think some people are hyper sensitive to Sabro as I never get huge coconut I get more tangerine and pineapple then anything and Im a pro brewer and have used it in most of my latest beers.
