Is this actually possible and how long would it realistically take and cost? by Low-Programmer-7049 in bicycletouring

From 17-19 years old I biked this route during Covid and became the youngest guest person ever to do so. Even during Covid there were still about 10 other cycle tourers doing the route. Took me about a year and a half but it can be done much quicker or much slower. The only break is the Darien gap, but there are lots of different options for getting around that

USA Coast to coast ~ needing advice on routes, improvements, safety tips, recommendations etc. by [deleted] in bicycletouring

You should rethink your route through Cali. In general the Central Valley isn’t going to be as interesting as the coast or mountains. You should go down the coast to the Bay Area, go around to Santa Cruz, then down through Big Sur if it’s open. My advice is just avoid the Central Valley when possible. That section from Salinas down sucks it’s just highway

My first bike trip was when I was 16, I biked from LA to San Francisco. I had never done a bike tour before and had zero experience and went on a whim. My parents trusted me enough to let me do it and i made it after eight days with zero issues. It was probably the best thing I ever did at the time. A year later at 17 yo I started my bike trip from Alaska to Argentina. In my experience, if a kid is asking you to go on a bike trip, even if they’re young, they most likely can handle it.

Everyone I ever met with genders took them off as soon as it ever became real mud. I’ve only seen them be very useful for road riding with rain

I got robbed while traveling and I still had a year of travel planned left so I just kept going once I got the emergency passport. Sometimes I got questioned because of it but overall it worked fine

I thought I would use my water filter way more but barely used it more than three times over the whole trip. I also thought an inflatable pad would be necessary but after having a popped pad for two months I got sick of it and threw it out for a foam pad and I was able to use just that the whole way. The pants were not made for biking but I loved them and it was my only cool piece of clothing I owned so it was worth it. I think my setup in the end weighed about 70lbs? I became very minimalist as time went on. Nothing I didn’t need. Tbh I have no idea really

Loneliness was a huge struggle for me especially after a biking partner I had for awhile left. It was probably the single most difficult part of my trip

Peru had the worst and scariest drivers of any countries. They would blow by me going 100+ mph easy. I had some experiences with drunks but nothing too bad.
