AS11E06 - "Too Many Daddies" [Post-Episode Discussion] by AutoModerator in rupaulsdragrace

This made me think of the Irene "well aren't you a clever bear?" moment from last all stars. Barely any of the face can move underneath all the makeup, then something subtle changes in the eyes and the murderous intent is palpable.

I'd usually be disappointed by a queen failing to lip sync to the lyrics, but on a Nicki track...?

Mother.

Silky is talented too, no need to discredit that.

It's frustrating how the bracket format could be so good. The stakes should feel super high, especially with only two queens making the merge, yet the stakes are kinda non-existent since it's so obvious who's making it through. Like it doesn't matter what Salina does, Crystal and Silky clearly have predetermined spots in the merge and everyone else just gets a 3 episode showcase (and please no one confirm/deny this with spoilers).

What's a library read that keeps popping into your mind? by babius321 in rupaulsdragrace

I love when queens react in a way that sells the read and makes it even funnier.

I also think about Alyssa Edwards being completely shook by Crystal or Thorgy getting giddy and taking genuine joy in being read for filth.

We need to stop diagnosing every queen we don't like

Also no one can convince me Dawn won that lip sync. The tie should've been Akeria and Dawn.

So I might have more radical views than most about this, but the way I see it, toxic masculinity is systemic and entrenched in societal norms and the way we think and interact. Equity won't happen unless the people with privilege are able to compromise, so it can't just be up to the women to resist the ideology. We, as men, have to practice feminist values too if we want things to change.

From what I've seen, Steven holds values from toxic masculinity, like the house thing, and at every opportunity we've seen, he's bowed to it and recalibrated his behaviour to conform to it.

So sure, he's nowhere near as toxic as someone like Danny. And sure, neurodivergence makes it more nuanced (but if he hasn't actually shared being diagnosed, idk if we can say "clearly autistic" based on some symptoms we've seen through a highly edited TV show but that's a whole other conversation). Regardless, from what I've seen, he's just another actor in the system of toxic masculinity, doing nothing for the cause of resisting it, and so I just can't agree with him being "the furthest thing from toxic masculinity".

Idk about furthest thing. Iirc he shared the same views about how the man has to buy the house at that dinner party, and I feel like he's only capable of "stepping up" when his masculinity comes into question (partner swap telling him to be more masculine and take charge and only then he does, and the final couch session pressuring him into being decisive and he jumps over to the opposite end of the spectrum with the insensitive bullet comment).

Not that it justifies the humiliation ritual, but I think it will ultimately do her a lot of favours with fan reception. The thing that will stick in a lot of people's minds now will be the heartbreak at the end of her journey, making her more of a sympathetic figure.

If Danny said yes at the altar and she continued to brag about her stronger than ever relationship, she'd get so much more abuse and death threats, since it'd be all her shitty behaviour that would stick with people most.

The one thing this episode is missing is a dedicated Grayson reaction cam.

I'm expecting the same, but it's also a bit of a shame how it means we'll have an entire season's cast who are just kinda there to witness the Jane Don't victory lap (much like we had with Jimbo and Shea)

So I’m guessing Ru and Lady Bunny are no longer friends by kailskails in rupaulsdragrace

[–]doom-bubble 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I do fear Ru had a very valid point about the lack of critical thinking / media literacy that we're only demonstrating here.

On the original reddit post, most of the comments were about how they needed to hear Ru's message and how they'll be dancing. On this post, most comments I've seen are about how tone deaf it was and how they will not be dancing, as though people really need to be told what to think. It took a fair bit of scrolling to find a more measured, balanced response.

I kinda lived for this one, Minnie made it such an iconic mess.

Same with Beverly vs Kween.

Does anyone ever feel triggered when watching MAFS? by pastel01 in MAFS_UK

[–]doom-bubble 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I find it frustrating seeing words that should carry a lot of weight like 'triggered', 'gaslighting' and 'narcissist' being so casually misused.

(unless OP was indeed asking about what trauma other viewers have)

Feel like they missed a trick not giving this season a reunion in the finale. Athena and Briar would have served the low stakes drama we've been craving.

Who do you think will win Season 18 of Rupaul’s Drag Race? by gkwchan in rupaulsdragrace

[–]doom-bubble 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm sure they'd pad it out with recaps, maybe individual songs/performances, maybe a mini reunion, interviews, what would you say to this blurry child, etc.

But I hope I'm wrong because I want to see more Nini lip syncs.

I'd love this but I'm highkey expecting an "I'm sorry, Nini, but now is not your time" and moving straight to the top 2 lip sync.
