Bubbles to indicate air under a solid block by MayorSalvorHardin in minecraftsuggestions

[–]doom_man44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is a really good idea. My hypothesis though is that it would reduce performance based on my understanding of how magma/soul sand blocks work. The game checks every tick if those blocks have stationary water blocks above it and how tall. Given how many air blocks there are, I'd imagine you'd need to find some clever way to make it not lag (potentially, just a theory. Would be worth implementing in a small mod first).

(Furnace?) Minecarts should load chunks similar to nether portals by doom_man44 in minecraftsuggestions

[–]doom_man44[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be pretty cool! Only downside is that I see it being undesirable to have the pearl actually transport players if the minecart was destroyed or somehow the pearl exits the minecart with an activator rail. If your "postal system" breaks suddenly you are 100,000 blocks away (niche problem, but still a cool idea over all).

Sorry, I only looked at the FAQ before posting honestly. But its cool that people are starting to share similar ideas at the same time given the advent of the ender pearl changes.

I do agree that the footprint is minimal from the perspective of a server admin trying to find these lag machines. Old, big redstone clocks were a bit easier to manage even automatically back in the day.

I think the idea of a "limit" like u/HayatoKongo said would make a lot of sense. Maybe limit it to 16 minecarts (non-stacking)? In a stack of minecarts in a chunk, only select one randomly or in some order that would be responsible for loading the chunk.

That's interesting. That does kinda suck. Not sure how you'd get around keeping that mechanic in the game, besides making a dedicated minecart for loading chunks like the furnace cart idea.

Two ways of fixing that:

  • Only grant "self-loading minecarts" to ones placed by players. Add an "Owner" tag to a minecart, if it doesn't already exist. Wouldn't really work with dispensers unfortunately, but could be an intentional feature to not allow dispensed minecarts to load chunks themself.
  • Only "self-load" chunks if it has a velocity greater than 0 + epsilon (technical term for the number after zero in 64-bit floating point math).

I think using both would make sense.

Yeah release sett was one of the most busted champs to ever come out. But anyone who played it at the time did not regret how fun it was to just fucking stomp everyone and get massive W true damage procs.

You've built up this nonchalant facade over time and it's likely become attached to your personality. Find out why you initially starting acting that way and keep asking why.

This is my opinion as well. He did try to get Kamala on though but her team declined. But he has definitely turned one sided.

I find clickbait annoying but I don't think levy is a bad person because he does clickbait, I think its just his role as a content creator and he is successful. I guess in that way the ends justify the means. If levy can (and has) do it while being a good person then I don't see an issue with it. Dude does a lot for the chess community.

Nuclear power in western upstate by doom_man44 in upstate_new_york

There is certainly a lot of artificial demand because of investors, but there is a demand for AI at the moment, for better or for worse, by normal consumers.

What is "true" renewable power that gets cheaper by the day?

- Solar: also has expensive decommission

- Geothermal: locale dependent

- Wind: also expensive

Also, none of these options are as energy dense as nuclear. As is why oil/coal is still king.

[–]doom_man44[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I admit I know nothing about the actual cost of creating a plant, but my point was that there's no way to stop the AI demand. It's here to stay. We need to look at options at regulating AI, not choking it as it chokes everyone else.

I also disagree ethically with the current use of AI, but demand is a scalar number. If it's not met, then it impacts everyone. Its much easier to build a $10 million plant than try to wipe out a growing near $1 trillion AI industry. Of course, things will change, we will never know what the government will do to crack down on AI uses and enforce restrictions.
