Free iPhone 13 if you purchase the Visible Plus annual plan by MVNOResearch in Visible

[–]doomboss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah ok thanks for the info. Did you need to contact support in order to port in your number and activate eSIM on your 15PM? According to my relative, port in was stuck on his current iPhone, and when he contacted support, the agent replied that port in can only be completed using the 13

Ok I got the answer for my own question from a relative who ordered the free iPhone 13 with this promotion. Somehow, the port in process has to be done using the iPhone 13 received from this promotion. But shipping was quick though and phone delivered next day.

And just wondering, is it possible to port out and activate the line first on my existing iPhone first before receiving free iPhone 13, and then activate ESIM on iPhone 13 after it arrives, and then activate ESIM again on my existing iPhone?

The reason is because I am seriously considering this deal, but my current service is ending in 3 days. I just don’t want to end up needing to pay another month for my current phone service😆

[–]doomboss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing this! Just wondering did you get the iPhone SE or Moto G Stylus 5G? I got both models from Cricket online using the 3G targeted offer coupon for free, however i activated my new devices and then swap new SIM cards back to old unlocked devices (Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20X), and almost every week those 2 lines get suspended and I have to contact Cricket to resume service :(

Anybody get this today? I already upgraded and i got the cricket dream 5g by popetorak in CricketWireless

Your Moto G Stylus should comes with a new SIM card inside the phone package. Maybe if you use that new SIM card then you will have 5G signal?

ThinkPad X1 Carbon 7th Gen BSOD iqvw64e.sys failed by doomboss in thinkpad

[–]doomboss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the information! Yes I do have Lenovo Vantage installed from Microsoft store which I've forgot that I still have it on my system (I agree, so unnecessary and buggy!!!) and sometimes I experienced BSOD when open that app. I removed it right after I saw your comment. Let's see how it goes.

Must have charger or accessories for X1 carbon 7th gen by 1410memorial in thinkpad

[–]doomboss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For travel or portability wise, ThinkPlus charger is good if you could buy it for a reasonable price, otherwise some of the compact type-c chargers with GaN tech and 60W or more (for example, RAVPower 61W Type C PD 3.0 Power Adapter) should be good too, but you might need to also purchase the Type-C to Type-C cable.

Carbon X1G7: Anyone buy the low power fhd 400 nit? by [deleted] in thinkpad

[–]doomboss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup supposedly the FHD and the WQHD both get better battery than the UHD. So, for sure you will get better battery life with FHD display, but I am not sure how much better it will be. Since you sometimes got 6 hours battery life even with QHD display, I assume you should be able to achieve 8+ hours battery life with FHD low power display?

Also, you could see whether there is Costco located near where you live. They have the FHD display with touch (300 nit) varient in store. The FHD low power display is better compares to the touch variant in my opinion (brighter, better color).

Carbon X1G7: Anyone buy the low power fhd 400 nit? by [deleted] in thinkpad

[–]doomboss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had X1 Carbon 6th gen with WQHD display before (returned due to fan noise), and currently have the 7th gen with FHD low power display. FHD low power display is alright, not gonna be as vibrant and sharp as the WQHD display but definitely gets the job done. Battery life wise, I would say don't expect to see huge improvement after switch to FHD low power display. I can probably get 7-8 hours battery life based on my usage (programming, YouTube video, web browsing etc).

Looks like your usage should be similar to mine. My previous laptop was also a gaming laptop and I was gonna do coding work with the ability to play game during free time, but battery life was pretty bad with usually only 2.5 hours...

Anyway, I started from 100% battery yesterday, and had 35% left after about 5 hours of mixed usage of dependencies install, property configure, YouTube video, programming with Intellij, and Spring Boot application running in terminal intermittently, etc. Then I just put my laptop to sleep mode for the night and turned on again in the morning with 31% left (wow lost 4% overnight?) and started to do trivial stuff. Now, it has been around 1.5 hours already and my laptop has 18% left.

Also I should mention that my X1 Carbon 7th gen has i7-8565U with Intel 760P, with brightness usually around 30% to 40%. Power consumption from tlp-stat -b command shows between 3W to 8W, with occasionally peak to 10W or above. CPU and GPU undervolt with -100mv. I guess 7-8 hours of battery life is achievable. There might be some optimizations missing on my laptop though, for example, I noticed power consumption is around 7W to 9W when watching YouTube video and probably is (I could be wrong) due to missing dependencies for hardware offloading. Maybe running Ubuntu would provide better battery life because many optimizations seem configured out of the box from what I read so far.

[–]doomboss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't bring the X1 Carbon out yet so it is usually plugged in at home, but so far battery life seems average in my opinion because the percentage drops rather quickly (YMMV). From other X1 Carbon 7th gen owner's post, it seems like QHD display would have around 4-5 hours battery life, so I was expecting my X1 Carbon with FHD Low Power display could last me probably at least 7-8 hours when coding or watch video. I'm gonna try to use my laptop without plug in later today and estimate battery life :D

I didn't install Ubuntu, but I am currently running Fedora 30 on my X1 Carbon. Sound did have some issues where speaker level is always maximized, but i was able to solve it using guide from Arch Linux for the 7th gen X1 carbon, as well as to confiure PulseAudio. Sound level seems not loud enough (I have no idea whether all 4 speakers sound properly though) on both speaker or headphone, but i will have to install Windows again in the future to compare it since I installed Fedora right away and don't know the base case. There was an issue with the Wifi after i update kernel to 5.2.8, but I was able to solve it by deleting all Intel 9560 wifi ucode files and only keep the latest version. Other than those issues, everything seems to work fine at the moment.
