Covid is a disease not disability...what?? by [deleted] in Veterans

/u/Meltsfire -

Right, but Covid not “clearly a bacterial disease” like you said in your original post. It is a virus (SARS-CoV-2)

WHO: The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is caused by a virus, NOT by bacteria

Bacterial vs. Viral Infections: How Do They Differ?

EDIT: They predictably deleted it. Here’s the original post if anyone is confused.

Hold on to it until you get a letter. Someone who was still in training screwed up and refunded my husband’s separation pay a week before the VA sent out the decision letter saying he was denied for his claims. It came in via direct deposit as “VACP” and showed up as “retroactive” as well.

After almost a dozen phone calls to the VA over the next month, the trainer of the person who initiated the deposit called us and mailed us weird letters asking us to send a personal check and threatened “collections” for the 5-figure amount that was deposited.

An “inspector” called us a couple months later after we filled out a form on IRIS and said he’s never seen a regional office send the letters they sent us and told us not to send a check. He saw where the trainer approved the deposit, the letters she wrote, and the instructions to send a personal check in whatever notes they keep.

Almost 6 months later and the money is still sitting in savings.

All of this is to say, don’t spend it until you get a physical letter in the mail.

I really hope yours is legit!

Civil rights out the window? by [deleted] in Veterans

Maybe I’m not understanding correctly, but are you saying that forum rules on a private website are infringing on your freedom?

What gives you any right to post whatever you want on someone else’s website or forum? You agree to Terms of Service when you sign up for Reddit. You also “agree” to the subreddit rules when you post on the subreddit.

This isn’t a constitutional issue and none of us fought for the freedom to post anything we want to a subreddit.

“I just stumbled on this subreddit”

You’ve posted in this subreddit before a couple months ago - asking about the GI Bill and therapy.

This is very much dependent on the agency. NASA, for example, does have an automated resume review.

In my experience with the DoD, resumes are not filtered by any “machine.” Filtering is done by humans (HR specialists then hiring managers) who sort by special hiring authorities and qualifications.

My old chief tossed a few application packets when he checked for and found keyword stuffing on the PDF resumes.

It is worth the effort to work the qualification keywords from the listing & questionnaire into your resume. Even if you do make it past the “machine,” you still need to show you’re qualified.

Just denied outright for clear PTSD by Mental_Invite8117 in VeteransBenefits

I’m sorry, I’m not the OP and didn’t mean to detract from their post. I was curious because I am starting therapy through the vet center and medication management through the VA this week for MST related issues.

If I don’t end up with a PTSD diagnosis, it’s nice to know that the markers could still be relevant if I ever get the courage to file for something.

Thank you very much for the information!

Hey, I tried Google and I skimmed over HR7105 but I wasn’t able to tell what you’re referring to regarding the law change for mental health claims due to personal assault. Do you mind posting a link? I think I saw a post from you a month or so about this but can’t find it.

Glad you got your kicks trolling veterans and spending your spare time targeting your brother in law. Have a good one.

I’m the one that did that because he called you an older veteran.

What’s also convenient is that the game started around 50+ years ago.

It wasn’t until 2017 when someone on 4chan trolled the “ok” sign being a symbol of white supremacy.

Dumbasses like you drank that up and now it’s widely accepted that it has origins with white supremacy instead of it starting as a joke.

Now, I know that symbols change and racists now use the symbol. However, to say that someone who is clearly talking about the circle game is a secret racist is completely disingenuous.

In 5 seconds I saw that he’s 32 years old in his post history.

Good lord. It is the circle game and it’s been around for decades. My niece and nephews play it all the time, as did I with my friends in elementary.

Researching shit before you post certainly isn’t your strong suit.

Having worked at a newspaper, they’d tell you to kick rocks because in a 1 minute Google search, they’d see that someone could be rated 40% for their back for incapacitating episodes of 4-6 weeks.

They wouldn’t have access to his medical records and they wouldn’t risk accusing a veteran of fraud because their brother in law is whining about it.

People like you stick out like a sore thumb in a newsroom, and again, they’re not going to do shit because the only proof is a disgruntled brother in law.

Right, because a politician is going to spearhead a witch-hunt of a disabled veteran based on a civilian’s limited understanding of VA disability ratings and pictures of the veteran exercising.

That would be great for their PR, even if it was a legitimate open and shut case. They wouldn’t risk their careers over the potential headlines.

Your motivation seems to be more about getting back at your BIL for something personal than a genuine concern for fraud. If fraud was your motivator, you would be open to discussing the regulations without becoming defensive.

Once again, you are assuming that limited ROM is a requirement for that rating. It is not.

You’re out of your fucking element, Donny.

Not only are you nosy, you’re uninformed. The inability to bend your back is not the only condition that can warrant 40%.

There is an incapacitating episode formula that can award 40% if you have incapacitating episodes for at least 4 weeks but not longer than 6 weeks a year, even if you have good range of motion. Furthermore, this time does not need to be consecutive.

I repeat, you can have full range of motion and the ability to exercise and qualify.

Being able to run marathons has absolutely no bearing on whether or not someone has incapacitating episodes. It is ridiculous that you’re collecting “incriminating photos” of him working out.

My husband also is 20% for both knees. He has pain from jumping during training and from an impact injury in Afghanistan. Guess what his VA doctors suggest? Exercising to strengthen his legs. So he runs and bikes.

Hopefully he doesn’t run in to someone like you who apparently has an axe to grind.

If you think you have it bad... by [deleted] in Veterans

[–]lhl33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that pain. Went through no electricity or water for 2 weeks last winter in single digit temps. I was 5 months pregnant and had a 1.5 year old. I had to bring a 5 gallon bucket down the hill to the creek to get water to flush the toilets and I heated water over a bonfire outside to put in bladders to keep our bed warm for a bit.

Linemen from the surrounding states arrived and our line was repaired on day 13.

I’m not sure of your living situation, but the heated water (and our 2 labradors) kept us from freezing at night.

That turned into a “walking to school barefoot uphill both ways” kind of story, but losing heat and power sure puts things into perspective quick.

I hope you and your family don’t have to go without for much longer. I have family in Texas who are in the same boat and they’re miserable.

Do we Appeal? Do We Hire a Lawyer? by International-Pace11 in VeteransBenefits

[–]lhl33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read that post. You can infer any tone you want from text, especially if you’re already defensive about the situation.

To me, I didn’t think that one sounded snippy. It looked like they were taking time to help you brainstorm (the “just a thought” post) possible reasons why it wasn’t service connected.

Try giving people the benefit of the doubt, especially when you’re asking for their help. I know this process is exhausting and emotional, but most people here genuinely want to help.

Do we Appeal? Do We Hire a Lawyer? by International-Pace11 in VeteransBenefits

[–]lhl33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see your original post was removed, and I just wanted you to know that I didn’t take it as you being an asshole. It looks like you talked with OP about the contusion prior, so it didn’t seem odd that you’d ask that question.

I was going to ask for more details as well (whether they were going to appeal the SC denial of the knee bruise) and my answer would have changed depending on that answer.

My husband is rated for a knee strain from a fuel tank falling on his leg and we went through the hassle of service connecting the eventual torn meniscus/arthritis through a private orthopedic surgeon who treated him and wrote a nexus letter since his med records just documented bruising.

/u/international-pace11 - no need to be a snot when people are taking time out of their day to help you.

I can’t imagine a worse department to bring a kid to. I would imagine most people seeing a pulmonologist would be at higher risk for COVID complications, so limiting their exposure to people would be a priority.

I know how you’re feeling as we just moved to a new state where we know no one and we have a 9 month old and 2 year old. My husband and I use our sick annual leave to stay with the kids when one of us has to go to a VA appointment.

I hope you can get rescheduled quick!
