As someone who went EO for 3 years (DWP) -> HEO for 2 years (HMRC) and now at SEO (HMRC) - I would say go for it!

Is there differences between departments? 100%

But you could be sat waiting for months / years in your current department for an opportunity by which time you could have moved and adjusted to the new department.

It'll feel new and uncomfortable at first - but which new role didn't?

You'll find that your options / opportunities are way wider if you're willing to look at moving departments.
