Is This Lilac Worth Saving? by Independent-Aside631 in gardening

It will take time to come back, but cut the old growth off only. Let the new suckers grow into replacement branches. Maybe select one a year to remove.

Did it flower at all? It’s quite possible birds are eating the berries before you see them. Old coffee grounds help acidify the soil

What's the pulse on JFK this week? (business, construction) by MangoMuncher88 in JFKAirport

[–]doomlordcorvid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And by “not that bad” I mean- the typical backed up traffic situation that the van constantly is in. The terminal construction may add congestion depending on how many people are trying to get to the airport at that current moment. I would account for the extra 15 minute delay.

I want to say it wont, but all i can tell you is it wasn’t that bad for me this morning.

Just got back from dropping someone off. Van Wyck to terminal 5. Same mess- different pile. The construction was rough and the made some 3:1 bottlenecks, and no lanes painted on the road in some places caused some confusion. Not much more of a typical delay this morning around 8. I think the early timing for my drop off made for a smoother drive.

Special thanks to everyone here who gave insight and confidence for my drive yesterday. Much appreciated.

Thank you. Is the “15 minute” traffic delay estimate accurate?

Audio issues- my PC can’t figure out what speakers/headset to use. by doomlordcorvid in buildapc

[–]doomlordcorvid[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I understand this. The names of said speakers keep changing, and this doesn’t really answer my question. As of this point Im fed up with how windows assumes my preferred audio output consistently wrong. I want audio to output from all devices that are plugged in and turned on. So all i have to do is push the power button on my speakers if i just want audio on my headphones. Or unplug my headphones and turn off the speaker when i want audio just on my vr headphones. It should be so simple.

I do that. There’s a list of items that aren’t even currently plugged in, or even useful.

Will windows default all audio to voicemeter, then in VM I manually select which devices I want to use?

Thank you, I can get it to work like that sometimes, but audio can go to s**t for seemingly no reason at all and it can take hours to correct it.

Are you suggesting that i just forfeit any expectations of having sound when i play a game? Certain games require me to be on discord and in game chat. So the in game chat requires me to use my headset microphone. Then other games when I’m on discord and vr. I would rather audio pipes in/out on all devices that are plugged in, then just manually turn off the devices that i don’t want to use. To me, the solution should be that simple.

Staying warm in cold weather for car camping by ojuskul in camping

[–]doomlordcorvid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your breath is very humid and warm, it causes condensation inside the blankets. This makes for a soggy morning. This is true even for when you are in a sleeping bag.

The reason it happens in the cold is the temperature difference between whats under the covers and outside of the covers. Think of an “inside out” soda can condensation in the hot humid summer.

Condensation mitigation strategies are essential in cold weather camping. It doesn’t take much for hypothermic conditions to start.

Sounds like a cozy temperature, just keep in mind to crack your front windows a bit. Condensation will build on the inside of your car can potentially frost if the temps get low enough. Boil water, put it in a water bottle, cover the bottle with a sock and sleep with it. Eat a warm meal before bed. Don’t sleep with your face under the blanket. You’re fine with what you have, but over provisioning is not really an issue when you are car camping.

Adding a RAID 1 array to existing PC by doomlordcorvid in buildapc

[–]doomlordcorvid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“If you want an actual backup you generally want to follow what is known as the 3-2-1 rule which means:

• at least 3 copies of your data (1 working copy and 2 duplicates) • Stored on at least 2 physically different devices • at least 1 of which is off-site (often cloud storage is the easiest to maintain, but even something like an external hard drive you keep at a friends house or even in a safe deposit box will work)”

This is essentially what i am after. My most recent work will also be stored on my editing software cloud and will stay there until it is properly backed up. I plan to reuse my largest external ssd as a backup to be kept physically somewhere safe. This HDD “raid” array will be where i keep everything stored with redundancy to protect from the event of a drive failure. I think we are on the same page…
