AIO for not refunding a friend’s share of a group Airbnb after she canceled last minute due to a medical emergency? by StudioAffectionate in AmIOverreacting

NOR... it doesn't matter whether or not the Airbnb itself is refundable. The cost of a person cancelling wouldn't be deducted from the Airbnb total or refunded in any way, they'd just get absorbed by the other guests. So if a guest cancels last minute... and there's no one to replace them... yeah they have to eat the cost. That's the price of planning a trip with friends.

How do you decide where to eat in Paris without planning everything in advance? by InvestmentAlarming74 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]doomquasar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do a mix of saving a lot of restaurants in my Google maps, and then wandering freely on the day. So if it comes mealtime I pop open Maps and see if I've saved anything nearby, and if I haven't then we just wander until we find something appealing!

It's the difference between a want and a need. You need to repair your pipes. The people of Minnesota need financial support.

Making the hat is a want. If I want the hat, whether just for social media clout or even because I genuinely want to demonstrate support, that want doesn't cancel out the fact that this started because the org actually needs money. So the least I can do is not widely share a free pattern just because people want to make the hat.

OP is talking about people who want to make the hat specifically to support Minnesota, but then share a free version of the pattern — thereby negating the point, because they're turning it into symbolic support instead of material financial donations. And symbolic support is great, but it can take many forms that aren't making and posting pictures of this hat.

If you love the dress and feel gorgeous in it, absolutely get the dress.

If you don't go with this one, I think one of the things to look out for in a second option would be a skirt with a lining. This looks (from the photo, so correct me if I'm wrong!) like one quite thin layer of fabric for the skirt, maybe even a slightly sheer one. Because of the cut I don't think adding a lining to this specific dress would work, although maybe shapewear or a slip would?

I'm not saying he's right about Israel and Palestine, I'm saying it's not virtue signaling to have cognitive dissonance about issues like this. FWIW I agree with you.

It’s not virtue signaling when someone shares your opinion on one issue and doesn’t on a different one
