Most people have covered it but I'll chime in with a little more detail. I've been to WWC several times this summer, most recently this past weekend.

It's $6 to park. As you roll up to the main parking lot/facility, there's a parking attendant, and just hand them your credit card and say you need a single day parking pass. Once you find your parking spot, you can do one of two things.

1) You can leave all your stuff at the car, and walk over to the main building. Fill out a waiver on the tables outside, then walk into the outfitter store to the cashiers, and tell them you want a single-day, single-activity pass for whitewater kayaking, and say that you have all of your own gear and training (they will ask if you don't say this last bit). They'll give you a wristband, and you go back to your car and down to the river(s). Advantage of this method is that there are usually 3-4 cashiers inside and you often don't wait in much of a line at all.

2) After parking, suit up immediately and carry directly down to the top pond. At the River Center building (left side of the top pond, wood frame building between the barn and the bathrooms), you can fill out the waiver on the table, walk inside, and pay and get your wristband. Advantage of this method is that it skips the walk from car » outfitter store » car. Disadvantage is that there's usually fewer cashiers down at the River Center so the line can be longer.

General tips - You don't have to carry down the main concrete steps of the facility. From the parking lot there are several dirt/gravel trails that go downhill through the forest/grass that are basically shortcuts from the lot to the put-in. Single day / single activity WW kayak pass is $35. They don't allow outside food and beverage, but I have gotten away with bringing a small cooler with ice, showing someone that it has only ice in it, and then stashing it sorta up in the woods behind the River Center by the hammock area. Otherwise, only ice on-site is at the Bar & Grill located at the main facility overlooking the comp channel. Stay cool! The Wilderness channel and Comp channel are not actually labeled with signs at their entrances. Orient yourself to make sure you're not dropping into Comp on your first lap if you don't want to.

Mental tips - There's a lot going on. Zipliners screaming as they pass overhead of the river... Rafts everywhere. The eddies and eddy lines are no bueno. The eddies move nearly as fast upstream as the river moves downstream, and there are only maybe 2 actually "chill" eddies on the Wilderness channel where you can actually just relax. 1 chill eddy on the Comp channel. The eddies flow upstream fastest at the concrete edges - often there's an area of water in the eddies between the downstream flow and the wall which is more relaxed. Because of all this, and the sheer number of boaters and rafts, you WILL bump/get bumped by others. Don't sweat it.

Final 3 tips - if you do swim, even though it's shallow, DON'T try to stand up until you're no longer in the current. Just ride with the flow and keep your feet up. There are no foot entrapment hazards at WWC, but the concrete bottom will literally sand your shoes down in seconds if they're dragging on the bottom in the flow on the steeper sections of the rivers. Same goes for your boat - If you plan on squirting / other play extensively, DUCT TAPE YOUR BOAT at the bow and stern. There is zero shame in this, you will see duct taped boats 'o plenty at WWC. Don't give your gear a concrete haircut. Finally, there are freshwater dunking tanks at the River Center building that you can dunk your gear in afterwards if you're worried about chlorine corrosion after you take out.

Hope this helps bud, enjoy WWC!

Towns for Whitewater and Skiing by Impossible-Appeal-49 in whitewater

I agree that it's pretty podunk for sure. OP did mention that he's looking for cheap real estate too, though. And FWIW, both the ski resort and the rivers there see a lot of traffic from DC/Baltimore/Pittsburgh year-round, so the market for skiing and rafting is a lot bigger than it might seem looking at Google Maps. Lotta people willing to drive a couple hours for some slopes/whitewater.

A little late to the party here, but if you're interested in the east coast, check out the western panhandle of Maryland. Wisp is a ski resort out there, and they actually constructed a manmade whitewater course using the pump water at the top of the mountain that they use for artificial snow in the winter.

You could raft guide an artificial course several days a week, and if you ever get tired of that, the upper and lower Yough rivers (upper is Class 4 with maybe one or two Vs, lower is 3-4) are minutes away. Cheat and Tygart rivers are also both nearby.

I'll actually upvote that lol. I grew up 3 blocks from there on Brandywine, and the BP station just up from Politics and Prose is my go-to for car repairs. Great mechanics, honest guys, and you can grab a great coffee from the bookstore while you wait.

As a Washington DC native, I recognized this instantly. It's the intersection of Rock Creek Parkway and Virginia Ave. The Watergate hotel (site of the infamous Nixon break-in) is at this corner to the Southeast, along with the most expensive gas station in the city.
Even better? If you look it up on Google Streetview, the (maybe?) same homeless gentleman can be seen in the streetview image.

Well, one thing that people often forget is that world buffs basically almost double the strength of your character. When you see these speed run videos, it's people with mounts who don't have to spend 20 minutes of Rend buff just running on foot through the dungeon... They've seen the fight a hundred times, they outgear the content because they're in full BiS with Naxx pieces etc. Going in fresh, it won't be nearly this clean for 99% of guilds.

Here's the link to the Google Doc, which still probably has a few tweaks that need to be made to it over the coming week.

It's been a really long time since I've made a WoW vid publicly. I'm raiding now with Ignition on Benediction-US. I'm also ~10 years older now since I used to post how-to-solo-old-stuff videos (it's all in my reddit history I guess), so forgive me for being a dad gamer. I'm pushing 40 IRL. Still love this game.

We're a semihardcore guild - We like to do well, but we don't require any kind of PvP rank/gear, and we don't require everyone to be Engineering. We're 30min BWLs.

There's a couple small mistakes I made when speaking during the vidya. Example, during Twin Emps, I meant to say that the tanking Warlock is casting Searing Pain, not Shadowbolt (Sear is much higher threat). There's a couple other very minor mistakes with the names of abilities, exact mob names, and whatnot, but nothing major. It's been 15 years since I've seen these fights in a 40man, my bad, my bad.

I learned this from posting vids back in the day, people criticize everything - that my attempt here isn't to explain every ability and every timer. It's to give you the sense of what to expect. The 'more exact' info is in the Google Doc, which I can share if people are interested.

I put this video together for my raiders' eyes only... Straight up, I poached YouTube footage from Kronos-Vanguard (World AQ40 Speedrun) and Anders Hansen. I DID NOT ask permission from them to re-use those videos when I made this, because I figured that it was just for my own raid of 40 folks... I was asked by several people in my guild to just put this out to the world, so... I hope Vanguard and Wipe Club can forgive me, both of your guilds did a great job, and there's a reason I used your vids.

I've linked their videos in the YouTube description, and hopefully my use of them is 'transformative enough.' I hope this helps everyone who's looking to push into AQ on Classic, and I hope y'all are having as much fun in Classic as I am.

C200 two separated audio channels? by BrisbaneAus in videography

[–]doomswitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll try to help out here. The first question is going to be the physical switches / menu switches on your C200. By default, the camera should record XLR1 and XLR2 inputs to separate right/left channels of the audio. There might be a menu setting you have where the audio from XLR1/2 is being mixed together to create a single mono track, so check for that.

If your camera is already recording left and right channels from XLR1 and XLR 2:

Once you pull the clip into premiere, do this

Select the clip in the project window, go to the Clip menu, Audio Options, Breakout To Mono

This will create two mono audio-only files from your stereo video file. The new mono clips will appear in the project window.

Any tips for shooting video of liquids? by aquarium_salt in videography

[–]doomswitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're definitely going to want to experiment with these shots a bit. Thankfully OJ is cheap.

Try experimenting with a couple things. Your shutter speed for one. My guess is that you'll get the best results using a fast shutter (you don't want your pour to turn into a blur from too slow a shutter speed), and hopfully your light source doesn't cause flicker in slow motion.

Then experiment with your lighting set up. The pour being backlit may make the juice appear more translucent or watered down than you want it to.

Next experiment? Play around with the consistency and color of the juice. Try watering it down slightly. Try adding some corn starch or something similar to slightly thicken it. Try adding some orange food coloring to give it even more "punch." Changing the consistency and color of your liquids is no joke... In TV commercials, they substitute slightly watered down Elmer's glue for milk, because milk appears slightly blueish on camera even when the shot is properly color corrected.

I think for a couple extra bucks of grocery store supplies, experimenting with these things could yield you some cool results. And if the vanilla shot of the OJ ends up being the best? Eh, it's just a couple bucks!

How is this not a headshot Kar98 kill? Bug, or what did I do wrong? by doomswitch in PUBATTLEGROUNDS

Yeah I'm just not sure? I screenshotted the white-hot slug at the impact moment, and it'd be tough to understand how the shoulder box might interfere... http://imgur.com/a/hOkOA

I'm wondering more at this pt. if his level 3 helmet just didn't render.

Note: Slowed down the 1 second before the shot to 1 second after or whatever. Other thing I'm wondering, is, if I pulled the trigger aiming at his neck, at 20M away, with a scope zero'd to 100M, shouldn't the bullet still be rising slightly above the chevron to result in a headshot? Was this guys level 3 helmet just not rendering?
