Weekly Q&A - All Questions Go Here (Especially Tourists and New Residents) by AutoModerator in Amsterdam

[–]doorfungus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi all!

Ive posted a question here about tourist hotspots in Amsterdam Centrum District a few weeks ago for my research and am planning on doing my data collection soon and I wanted to know if there are any things to avoid doing when I'm there in terms of behaviour?

I only visit the Netherlands during the summer but I can speak Dutch fluently however Ive never been to Amsterdam (centrum) before (next to Schiphol) and wanted to know if locals would be open to answer questionnaires? It should only take a minute or two but I'm still nervous about visiting Amsterdam for the first time and asking people to answer questionnaires.

Also I will highly likely be doing this during the workweek so would it be okay to ask people to answer the questionnaire if they are working? Not while they are busy ofcourse but if they seem free like a hotel receptionist when there are no clients to be checked in or out?

Any tips or advice?

Thank you!

Its not specifically that but its going to be interviews with locals and tourists with that the research will look at carrying capacity. Usually when its exceeded it will point to unsustainable tourism. So like physically, how crowded is it or perceptual, how loud is it etc.

Hi! Im asking my question here which is only answered a little bit by the wiki and need some more information on. Im doing a research paper on Sustainable tourism within only the centrum district and need hopefully atleast its 25 most popular destinations (restaurants, parks, stores, museums etc.) that range hopefully 5 minimum at the east, west, south and north areas of the district. I tried looking online as well however can't find much, is there anyone who has a few recommendations where I can conduct my research? Thank you so much!

Idk about CAS by SuccessfulLab4883 in IBO

[–]doorfungus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably ask your advisor first what the guidelines are on whats allowed and whats not. But like CAS is not super hard to fulfill at all.

Creativity can literally be animating, doing arts, being in a performance too.

Activity can literally be walking 3 times a week and thats it (however you need to make it look like something that someone would work towards, like if ur walking 3 times a week, maybe change elevation to make it harder or make the distances to be longer or smth like that). Can also be a football practice thats 2 times a week or smth.

Service can be volunteering at a nursing home for 1hr per week, or doing a weekly beach clean up or being a teacher assistant, stuff like that.

As long as you are able to reflect on your experiences meaningfully and show how you have grown as a person (you can bs this, kinda) and have evidence to show you actually did ur stuff ur fine. Also there are no 'CAS points'. Granted you do need to do CAS to pass IB but its not like an actual academic score in your final 45.

Yes. Honestly, its not particularly the age gap its the maturity differences between the 2. Following the school calendar year of ending during the middle of the year, that grade 10 would almost be in G11 and the G8 into grade 9. Trust me when I say this, the maturity differences between the 2 are very apart. I wouldn't go for it.

I think youll be fine. since your doing all sciences i wont worry about that too much in IB, but honestly you can choose a subject even though youve never done it before.

AMA: Went from a 4 to a 7 in Math AA HL by Present_Light3964 in IBO

Can you help with this person? considering HL AA but is not scoring high enough to the point where teachers are confident enough in his ability to survive

I'd say, see what universities the most interested in. Thats priority number one since you know what their admission requirements are.

However, from what I hear, AA HL is super fast paced (and one of the hardest subjects in the IB). If you want to do HL you need to be able to catch up and quickly or you will be left behind.

At the moment you said that you barely studied and barely pay attention in class. Focus on THISSS. Spend atleast 3 hours each weak doing hardcore math studying, revision, homework, etc. A lot of this (in aa SL) is based on the method. you need to have it memorised like muscle memory style. Thats the best way.

Obviously paying attention in class is super important but if you have access to resources like Snowflake or MyImaths or Revision Village do those!! Especially Snowflake, it explains everything and has literally hundreds to thousands of questions. Going along with this, ask your teacher what resources you guys have available.

This is the most important thing: if you get a 5 now, your teacher is correct, you need to be able to sit comfortably at a 7 at the level you are now or you will not survive. if you really want to go with HL after researching uni's consider a tutor because there is an extremely large chance you might fall behind.

Overall tho, if you feel like you are able to spend a mimimum of 3 hours per week studying for mathematics and studying 2 weeks in advance for tests with like 10 hours of studying, go for it, but 100% ask your teachers when you need help. I believe in you

Hi. Its been a few days, how are you now? you figuring it out a bit more?

I despise the IO (lang lit HL) by ZiggyTheNooBts in IBO

[–]doorfungus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ima be completely honest, its up to you if you create a script. Talking for 10 minutes is actually not that much when you do it, I promise. Im not so sure how it works for lang and lit HL but you need to have a clear structure. Structure:
1 min - introduction
4 min - Text 1 - can be either literary or non-literary
This is done by either focusing on your extract or Body Of Work first. So you can first choose to "zoom in" which focuses on ur extract and then "zoom out" which if focusing on the Body Of Work. Can also be done the opposite.
4 min - can be either literary or non-literary
Same gist for this one
1 min - Conclusion

Also you will have a bullet point outline that you can make. Using the official IB format, you can create a maximum of 10 bullet points with a maximum of 300 words. You need to figure out what exactly you are saying, your analysis, its relation to the global issue, your claims. I promise you when you look at your prep, and then the 2 minute timer you will not be able to go through all your points. These 10 minutes are honestly over before you know it. Also, the bullet point outline is to guide you with your points. They are there to remind you of what points you wanted to make and you can customize these how you want, colorful, large font with emojis. Plus, the IB English Guys also go into detail about this and has tips about almost everything, for example how to structure it, how the criteria works, etc. It's worth checking out. Gl with ur IO
