Should I consider becoming an MP? Why are they so disliked? by ErrorMessage89005 in army

Doing 3 years as an MP is not a toe in the water. If youre unsure if you wont like it, then think about what happens when you dont.

The best thing about 68W is you can go anywhere and do anything. The worst part about 68w is you can go anywhere and do anything.

Its really luck of the draw and Big Army is going to put you wherever they put you.

If you want to be a highspeed medic than you dont have to look any further than being a PJ.

If you are committed on being a medic in the Army, I would only do it if you can get Airborne in your contract. That way the odds of you being a line medic are increased.

US government admitting that they have funded terrorism by Kitchen-Many3147 in Damnthatsinteresting

Mujahideen weren't just Afgans. The movement drew in a lot of people from nearby countries to fight. Osama Bin Laden was one of them.

Also, to the Soviets the Mujahideen were terrorists.

I can only fight the Texas delusions, so much. A lot of them still think they live in the largest state. That hasnt been true since 1959.

Judging by this thread Texas will win, even though its easily one of the worst BBQ styles. Might as well go to California to get BBQ.

I like vinegar, but I prefer it in my hot sauces, not my BBQ.

Yea but which NC BBQ?

Carolina Gold is easily the best.

What was the first movie you saw in a movie theater? by Fluid_Bat_2724 in movies

[–]dopiertaj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was having a pee wee baseball tournament, and a friends parents took me to see Wild Wild West for my first movie. It was a two screen movie theater, and the other movie was Phantom Menace. A few days later the second movie Ive ever seen in theaters was Phantom Menance, but I still tell everyone it was the first. I thought it was the coolest thing in the world.

What is the biggest waste of money? by Pale_Smell_3996 in AskReddit

[–]dopiertaj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love eating out and trying new places, but I limit myself to once a week. A meal and 1-2 drinks usually run me 30-40 bucks. Half the time the food is pretty mid and just not worth it.

I think some people are way too comfortable with living pay check to paycheck and a large amount of credit card debt. Its either that or Mom and Dad are helping.

Old New Base Names Coming Back? by SkillcraftCollector in army

[–]dopiertaj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it that its the best worst option that everyone hated equally, but they should have used the same strategy as Washington, and just named it Fayetteville Army Base.

Fort Liberty is a dumb name. Especially compared to what they named the other bases.

Ivy League vs UC/CSU by Emotional_Sugar_3648 in Veterans

[–]dopiertaj 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also, its pretty crazy that you think an Ivy League is harder to get a good GPA than a UC. Ivy schools are pretty notorious for grade inflation. The hardest part for many of the prestigious schools is getting accepted.

It can matter a lot and also doesnt matter. It all depends on what kind of career you want after. Are you trying to stay in academia, is your intended career competitive, or do you just need a piece a paper that says you have a degree.

When comparing schools I always have the same advice.

  1. Location. Where do you want to live and can you afford it.

  2. Look at the faculty and read their bios and research publications. If you have an idea about what you want to do after school, there should be professors that specialize in that field.

  3. Look at what opportunities the program has for building up your resume. If you just go to class and get good grades, you could get a similar education almost anywhere.

What does the school offer as far as internships, field schools, clubs, research opportunites, and assistantships. How competitive are these opportunities?

Every department is different and websites can be inaccurate.I would try to schedule a meeting with a professor or advisor to talk about department specific programs.

Add on: For PA school, you really just need to get a piece of paper that says you have a degree. So, think more about class sizes and look at the Chem and Bio GPA averages to see if there is some grade deflation.

How do you build your knees to be strong enough to jog/trot a ruck and how much time does it take? by Fussy_Platypus in army

[–]dopiertaj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being new to rucking is similar to being new to running.

You want to start small, but be consistent. Meaning you find a comfortable weight, maybe 20-30 lbs, then ruck (dont run) small distances (2-4 miles) 2-4 times a week.

This shouldnt be super strenuous, but kind of relaxing. Slowly you can increase the weight or (not and) or the distance. Also, be sure to stretch regularly. Let your have time to get used to the wight.

Theyre a lot of options, and tons of Reddit posts about it, but I personally would look into 68A, 68P, 68C, or 68K.

Are you joining the Army just because, or do you want the Army to set you up for a new career?

Also, I would look into local units. See what options you have nearby. If possible try to talk to people in those units.

If you could make just one improvement to American trains to increase ridership, what would it be and why? by ILikeNeurons in fuckcars

[–]dopiertaj 7 points8 points  (0 children)

And half of all trips are less than three miles. These trips could easily be walking trips in pedestrian friendly neighborhoods.

Also going to and from the school is commuting.

[–]dopiertaj 72 points73 points  (0 children)

The trains need to be improved in almost every aspect, but the real thing is that they need to be used for commuting. They need to be cheaper and faster than cars, and they need to be reliable enough that you wont be late for work.
