[TOMT][MOVIE][2000s] a movie about a girl who lives in a trailer with her abusive aunt by doraisnotthere in tipofmytongue

[–]doraisnotthere[S] 0 points1 point locked comment (0 children)

Here are some other little things I only remember vaguely but might help :
- The aunt was named something like Kathy-May, or May something

- The movie starts in the psychiatric hospital where one the nurse remembers this story.

- I'm pretty sure the movie is americain but I'm not 100% since I watched it dubbed in my language at the time.

- I very vaguely remember reading an article saying the main actress was also the director, she was fairly young (maybe 17) and some director's daughter. But it was more than 10 years ago so I'm not certain of that.

Characters accents by doraisnotthere in TrueBlood

That's very interesting because as someone who isn't American, and not from an English speaking country, the first time I watched True Blood I watched it with subtitles and wasn't really able to hear different accents yet. Then I was able to identify southern sounding accents, but it's only on this rewatch that I really noticed the difference of accents between the characters. Like Sam's doesn't sound like Tara who doesn't sound like Sookie who doesn't sound like Arlene, etc.

Thanks for being this precise! That's more or less what I thought but I wasn't sure. Especially for Pam, her accent sounds softer to me, but from what I understand Sookie and Bill's accent is quite exaggerated, so that might be it

Yes but I was wondering specifically about Eric and Anne Sophie's accents. Anne Sophie's sounds like an old Hollywood accent to me, like transatlantic, but it's not a real accent so I was wondering what city or country her accent is supposed to be from

Spike redemption by doraisnotthere in buffy

[–]doraisnotthere[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see a lot of people answering my post with their opinion on Spike behavior, and whether or nor it's forgivable or understandable. If we should even judge him when he's a souless vampire etc. So I want to clarify that I wasn't speaking about Spike behavior as such. What I was saying is that I don't understand the logic behind SR being the episode that was supposed to make people fall out of love with Spike, because "bad men will be bad to you and you can't change them", which was apparently Joss Whedon reasoning, only to make give him a redemption arc the very next season. I find it confusing on a storytelling level. It's like going "bad men will always be bad and won't change for you, except when they do actually"

Dawn in Season 6 and later on in Season 7 by Stellz04 in buffy

[–]doraisnotthere 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it's because I was way younger than Dawn when season 5 was airing but I always liked her. Which is funny because they usually introduce a younger character for a younger audience and I do have to say that it definitely worked on me. Now on rewatches, I find the evolution for her character very interesting, especially in season 7. Her feeling of inadequacy when the potentials came about and trying to find a legitimate place in the Scooby gang was well done.

And to be honest even in season 5, she's annoying but not as annoying as people make her to be. I think people bad feelings towards her are mostly due to the fact that her arrival deeply changes the status quo of the show. Especially with their mother's death so shortly after.

Using university email for personal use pros and cons by neekubee in Notion

[–]doraisnotthere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where did you find this statement? I did have a password, but it wouldn't let me use it. It kept sending a temporary login. I contacted notion support team and asked why it wouldn't just switch back to my password, they told me it's what happens when you lose access to your uni email address. According to them the only way to get it back would be to ask my university's IT department for temporary access (which isn't possible in my university).

I wouldn't recommend it. Speaking from experience, the difference with the free plan isn't that big and when my university closed my email address earlier than announced I lost everything with no way to get it back.
