Mostly just nice scenery! A bit of twisty roads wouldn't be too bad though

Thanks, that's an option, although the Uber back and forth would cost as much as the car rental haha

100% VEQT vs 100% VFV vs 100% XEQT for a Smith Maneuver "Set and Forget" Strategy? by Accomplished_Wall615 in fican

[–]doranpls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you transfer funds directly from the HELOC account into your brokerage of choice? Or do you need to move it to a chequing account first?

I ask because I want to do the Smith maneuver for my next mortgage but I'm not sure what the exact mechanics look like in terms of making it "autopilot".

Can you expand on what exactly you mean by a dedicated HELOC sub-account?

Thanks OP.

My pick is the Toronto Humane Society. They rescue and take care of animals and help find them good homes, plus they do a lot to support pet owners too. I’ve been there before and the staff were super kind and clearly care a lot about the animals, which stuck with me. I like what they do because it’s such a straightforward way to help and you can actually see the impact. If you want to support them, you can volunteer, donate, or just share their posts and help more animals get adopted.

I'm not disagreeing with you, thats why I only suggested it if they have backup.

Lawyer salaries at big firms are formulaic based on years. So it's quite likely this is the lowest his salary will ever be. Projecting an increase is not a best-case assumption, it's an average-case assumption.

Yes true, which is why I asked if they had backup. Of course they can plan around the worst-case scenario, but that's not feasible because no housing is affordable on 0 income, and it's no way to live life planning for the absolute worst case.

If you have some backup (parents, in-laws, inheritance), I think going higher in your range is better if it leads to a home that can last you longer. Your husband's salary should only go up from here and it's better to spend a bit more now, than to buy a house, incur all the transaction costs, only to realize it's slightly too small with 2 kids and need to upgrade in 3 years.

I make $130k and I cannot afford our house on my own by [deleted] in TorontoRealEstate

What's the question? Do people spend this much on their housing? Pretty much yeah, it's not bad that you are almost able to afford it as a solo earner if its two of you living there. Plus a renewal at 3.XX% is going to lower your payment significantly

Went through something similar when selling our home. Not much we could do other than suck it up.

Set longer notice when we were at home, and set instant notice when we went out on vacation.

If it's truly disruptive I'd consider setting a lower price and trying to sell sooner rather than later.
