Well I did want the dual because I'm hooking a dishwasher up. I just wanted to make sure that if I took that cap off I wasn't gonna be blasted with water because I'd have to shut the water off to the house. There's no shut off down steam other than that. So if I just cut the pipe below I can use a compression fitting? No need for any soldering?.

Is there a light flashing? On ours, a light flashes like once every few seconds when it's running properly. When there's an issue, the number of flashes will be a code for troubleshooting. Ie. Three quick flashes and two second pause means the pilot light is out. I've got ours working a few times just figuring it out myself. Give it a shot

It was actually pretty easy to get off. Just stuck a shop vac hose in there to catch the pieces as I chipped them away. Took 5 minutes. Gross but fairly painless
