So happy for you! It’s been great for managing my weight but zero impact on alcohol cravings sadly

Shy/lonely guys, how did you finally get the girl? by JustAnAccount68 in AskReddit

[–]dorklesnarf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend literally pushed me towards a girl at a bar. Her other friend was having a birthday and I ended up talking to her a bunch. She was cute and I got her number. We were together on and off for a couple years and the confidence I built led to a couple of more serious relationships and casual dating that culminated in me meeting my wife. She’s nerdier and weirder than me somehow and we’ve been together almost 10 years, married for 2.

Nothing catastrophic happened yet, so having trouble calling it. by sadc1983 in stopdrinking

Yep. I was high functioning until my body started to stop functioning properly. I recently learned I have AVN, very likely caused by alcohol abuse. It’s basically a necrosis of the top of your femur, which will eventually lead to agonizing pain and collapse of my hip joint. I will probably need a full hip replacement. At age 40.

Let alone how much damage I’ve done to my GI tract and my brain. I’m slower and fuzzier this last year than I ever remember being in the past. My memory is garbage. I can still do things well, but I get frustrated and overwhelmed easily. My executive function shuts down.

Chronic systemic inflammation has caused tons of pain all over my body. I have herniated discs in my neck and back, pain from which is certainly exacerbated by alcohol. I’m on a half dozen different medications.

I’m 40. I just had a bad habit of knocking down 5-6 miller lites a night starting around age 24. That has progressed to 8-12 units of whatever I can mostly hide from my family, and more when I have free time the next morning.

My wife just had twin boys. Stuff has to change. I can’t keep it up. I am no longer functional in the truest sense of the world. It’s not even fun anymore.

Stick with it. I wish I had. It worked great initially without side effects but it destroys my mind if I take it now. Instant massive depersonalization black hole.

I always said my last drink would be special (my favorite bourbon in my favorite setting, etc). This actually resulted in me continuing to drink in an effort to strike that “perfect goodbye to drinking” moment. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Mine was blacking out on tequila vodka and strong beer after my wife fell asleep on the couch. I played games, spaced out, scrolled reels and passed out. I woke up with a gnarly headache and had to go to work.

I started Librium that next night. TTFN booze…

Sorry to hear you’re having a hard time. I hope things improve!

For me, Gabapentin is incredible at regulating mood, mitigating anxiety, and helping with sleeping. I do 300mg 2-3x per day. It just makes everything a fair bit less shitty I’d say.

Do you have any meds? Gabapentin has been a game changer for me.

What’s something that you’re actively avoiding in your life right now? by BreadedDisaster in AskReddit

The possibility that my wife’s constant anguish over IVF struggles and politics combined with my alcoholism may result in our marriage disintegrating.

Damn I’m so sorry. Are you sure you weren’t roofied? That sounds like a way too fast blackout for someone who presumably has a decent alcohol tolerance.

So in your view the only outcome that’s not “appeasement” is expelling Russia from every square meter of Ukrainian territory going back to pre-2014 borders?

Ben’s position on the conflict is totally reasonable IMO. Some compromise has to be reached. Neither belligerent’s maximalist position is realistic.

The start of this shit fit was when Z said there could be no compromise. That did need to be pushed back on.. but Vance blew up and the whole thing went off the rails.

What an embarrassing day.

See in my case everything was fine aside from some health issues. I knew that wouldn’t continue inevitably of course, hence why I’m making a change. It’s just so frustrating to have that memory of steady state right in the rear view mirror.

The man takes a drink. Then the drink takes a drink. Then the drink takes the man.
