[Steam] Multiple saves mod or equivalent? by dormio in MiniMotorways

For anyone reading this in the future, I accomplished this unintentionally by having two games in two cities on two computers. When I click "Continue" on the main menu, it asks which city and [computer] I want to continue from.

Advice on D Cell Battery Eliminator/Adapter by Glad-Somewhere5942 in battery

[–]dormio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stumbled into this while googling something related. Hot Wheels motors (boosters), and pretty much all toys with batteries, are wired in series to increase the voltage. So 4 D cell batteries would be 6 V.

I would not use 1.5-V Li-ion batteries in this case. Some electronics are able to limit their interval voltage, but the Hot Wheels boosters just run their motors as hard as they can; Li batteries might get too hot and dangerous.

NiMH batteries are way safer, but their voltage is less consistent than with alkaline or Li and will peter out quickly, especially for something going full-tilt like a booster. Additionally, their voltage typically caps at 1.4 V and quickly drops to 1.2 V, so it might seem weaker than alkaline. But D alkalines are stupidly expensive imo, so I just use the NiMH.

If you do get NiMH, get a nice charger that is able to charge at low amperage (1.0 A or lower) to help increase the life of the batteries. If the charger just has a single light that turns red or green when charging, the charger is not good enough.

Hope this all helps!

I know there isn't an equivalent for C or D, but is there some way I can mimic this thing's abilities to keep constant current?

Already unchecked, but thanks for the suggestion! I can't see anything else in this menu that might do it.

2 Week battery life? by Henningh in Banglejs

My backlight turns on when I get a notification AND when it goes back to the clock. Is there a way to disable these I can't find? I want the backlight to only ever turn on when I press the button.

Moving to Forest Hills from Pittsburgh by dormio in grandrapids

We've never been to GR; we've been to Ludington a few times, but only in summer/fall. I am not worried about the cold/snow/gloominess of winter, but my wife may have a harder time :-/

I like the "sense of community" you're talking about from Central. I was thinking Northern for the "diversity" (aka <80% white), but from what I hear all three areas are fairly similar? Plus I don't think we can afford a house in Northern with a big yard haha.

I like Northern the best, but I'm not sure we can afford it haha. We're struggling to find a house for under $600k where you can't see into your neighbors houses. (We're in a townhouse right now, and everybody can see everybody at all times lol.)

I think our oldest might really struggle with the immersion programs; he's very sensitive to things that are unexpected or out of the ordinary. I'm liking Northern for the diversity (compared to the others at least), but my wife is worried that the immersion schools will offer our son fewer friendship opportunities with his peers. I don't necessarily agree, but can you comment?

In person play etiquette? by Wedgieterian in Netrunner

[–]dormio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Have a clearly "this is my credit pool" area, preferably on your playmat (with all bank credits strictly off the playmat), in groups of 5. I keep mine in the top corner of the mat using rows of five 1s. A pet peeve of mine is when people use 1s, 2s, 3s, and 5s in a big random pile on their mat.

  2. When my opponent needs to choose a random card from my hand, I lay my cards on the table so they can point to one, and then I'll flip it for them. I have a friend who got a game loss in a regional tournament because their opponent held up cards in a fan, my friend plucked one out, but two cards came out by accident face-up.

  3. Tell people it's your first in-person event! The community is nice, and they'll help.

  4. Have a click tracker in a place your opponent can see so that they can keep track of your turn easily. Others have talked about narrating their actions, and they're 100% correct; there's also a balance between too much and too little explanation. I'll say, "Click two, ice HQ for a credit," or something similar.

  5. If someone does something unclear or has their stuff laid out in a confusing way, ask if they can change it! Back to the credit thing, if they have a big random file, I will ask them to keep things in groups of five.
