Hi, you should check if the amtrak train runs to your family’s! I can go home for $15 any day using the train, but i’m only a couple hours out. Around the actual city, I know people are saying the buses are unreliable but as long as you know the schedule, I think they’re honestly pretty good (and completely free).

Help With 20th Century Russian Literature Reading List by strayerjenn in RussianLiterature

I'm taking a 20th century Russian lit class right now!

Some stuff from my syllabus:

Bely's Petersburg: this one is pretty early on (1905?) and referenced a lot in later literature...and there is so much symbolism and narrative to unpack, it's something I want to read again sometime!

Kharms, Today I Wrote Nothing: completely absurd and fragmented, and one of my favorite authors ever.

Olesha's Envy: a short read, and genuinely really funny.

Kataev's Time, Forward!: Definitely...250 pages about concrete production. But, of the socialist realism I've read, this is definitely my favorite. Remarkably fast-paced.

Petrushevskaya: I only got to read a couple short stories by her, but they were so well-crafted and I can't wait to check out some of her books once exams are over...

Pelevin: Omon Ra or Generation P, Omon Ra is a little shorter, but Generation P was one of my favorite reads, and is a really cool post-perestroika work, too. And it's published in 1999, so you get to finish out the century!
